Ronaldinho: Seven Best Players In The World

A modest Ronaldinho recently named the players he thinks are the best in the world. In the following order:

Henry
Zidane
Ronaldo
Adriano
Robinho
Kaka
Shevchenko

iN LIGHT OF HIS BEST 7, WHO WOULD YOURS BE?

I was just thinking about how each person looks at a different set of criteria for their best 7. Who would yours be?

1. Gerrard
2. Zidane
3. Shevchenko
4. Terry
5. Ronaldinho
6. Henry
7. Rooney

Would be mine, not that I couldn't think of about 10 more but thinking of depth in skill levels at various positions I think this is a 7 that could handle every position except the goalkeeper spot and even then Terry has always said he fanicies himself a bit handy in the nets.

If I could include a few subs ...

8. Beckham ... nobody crosses the ball like he does ... when he is in the right position on the field.
9. Ashley Cole, likely the best left back in the world will only get better.
10. Messi - As much as I hate to name an Argie, I just think he's going to light up Group C.

My top seven...

Ronaldihno
Zidane
Shevchenko
Rooney
Henry
Gerrard
Cole

You would think with that many Brits on my squad... their national team could do better than they have in the recent past. Nedved is the wild card on my squad... I think the man can still hold his own against the best.

A few thoughts on Ronaldinho's list.......in this article he claims he's not even the best player on Barca. I wonder who he thinks is better than him, and why that player isn't on his list? You're telling me that the UEFA Cup champion doesn't have one of the 7 best players in the world?......also, 3 of his 7 best players play for none other than Real Madrid. You'd think Barca (and Ronaldinho in particular) would have more trouble beating them if that were the case.......also, how could he have left Chris Brown off his list? Must have been an oversight.

On to my list:
Ronaldinho
Messi
Henry
Gerrard
Zidane (we'll miss you in August)
Ronaldo
Shevchenko
Bonus: Keller (don't laugh - he might be the best keeper in the world)

You guys are crazy to omit Totti. I know he gets lost playing for Roma who are not longer one of the elite teams in Europe, but he is flat-out amazing. Pele even said sometime last year that Totti was the best player in the world (I'll try to find the link). I think he is second to Ronaldinho:

1. Ronaldinho
2. Totti
3. Henry
4. Ibrahimovic
5. Zidane
6. Gerrard
7. Drogba, maybe... or Terry... someone from Chelsea needs to be on here!

Messi is going to be the best player or at least on this list before too long, and Kaka' and Robinho might be on there instead of ZZ and Gerrard... very tough call. But Totti deserves it (okay start mocking my Roma bias!) 🙂

I've got that magazine here. Ronaldinho claims Messi is the best at Barca.

I honestly debated long and hard if Totti should replace Cole, Gerrard or Nedved (my alternate). But in the end my admitted ignorance of how he has played depsite his club teams recent short comings left him a little shy in my book. If I were more familiar with Roma and Italian football in general he would be up there.

Sorry, Totti, Totti, Totti ... didn't he used to play football? Haven't seen him for a while, career suicide or was it retirement whilst playing?

Admittedly he is a genius, but I don't think he's really got it anymore, why stay at a team tat accomplishes little? Confidence or arrogance that he can change the team when the ownership makes no moves to change the team direction?

And Pele? Well I think in Four-Four-Two alone in the past year he has proclaimed, Owen, Rooney, Ronaldhino, Robino, Gerrard, you name it and he names them as the best player at the time. He really is a people pleaser, not that I don't respect his opinion, I absolutely do, he's forgotten more about football than I'll ever know, but he does rather change his mind a lot.

Totti only led Roma to 11 straight Serie A victories this season before going down with a broken leg. That's 11 in a row vs. probably the second best league in the world. He led the team in scoring despite missing the last part with injury.

It's sad to see that in todays age players are criticized for staying with their team, even when they are not elite. Totti was born and raised in Rome, he has professed love for AS Roma since he started with their youth team when he was a teenager. Then other teams offer him big money but he sticks with his team, stays true.. and gets criticized for "stay at a team tat accomplishes little" That is sad, Scholesy. I personally love it when a player sticks with his team.

I almost put Sheva on, but I really think there are other players that make Milan go. And really if you want another goal-scorer from Serie A on the list, why isn't anyone putting on Luca Toni, who scored 31 (THIRTY-ONE) goals last year for Fiorentina. Lots of people don't even know him yet.. but they will. Next month will be a huge coming out party for Toni, and he will probably end up at Madrid or Chelsea or Man U or something (he is a player who doesn't stick with his team, or else Palermo would probably be in Champioins this year.)
