I should have seen this coming.

Arena hates on Landon & Damarcus.

Believe it or not, I do have to work sometimes. During the time that I did listen to the game on 1640, I don't recall Cantor mentioning Damarcus or Landon once.

The anouncers were saying that the US is always in better shape than their opponnents, but I didn't see it. It looked like the US were walking and they were running! I swear, it looked like our guys were simply, totally outclassed.

I hope it was just a bad game, but they looked awfull!

Depressing Stats of the Day

Tuesday, June 13, 2006; E05

The U.S. can really use a win when it plays Italy on Saturday. But under Coach Marcello Lippi, the Italians have lost just twice in two years. Lippi's teams are 13-2-8 since he took over in July 2004 and have not lost in their last 19 matches. The current streak:

Date Opp. Result
Oct. 13, 2004 Belarus W, 4-3
Nov. 17, 2004 Finland W, 1-0
Feb. 9, 2005 Russia W, 2-0
March 26, 2005 Scotland W, 2-0
March 30, 2005 Iceland T, 0-0
June 4, 2005 Norway T, 0-0
June 8, 2005 Serbia- Mont. T, 1-1
June 11, 2005 Ecuador T, 1-1
Aug. 17, 2005 Ireland W,2-1

I haven't been this unhappy after a US loss since Iran beat us back in 1998.
Absolutely no effort by our team at all today with the possible exception of Reyna.

One glaring stat is we were not called for offsides ONCE which indicates that no one was making any effort at all to make forwards runs to receive a pass beyond that last defender.

I guess we just have to try to bounce back now. Back in 2002, it was Portugal who was humilitated in their first match and they bounced back to blast Poland 4-0. Going to be tough to get a similar result against the Italians however.

Hmmm... from PageSix...

"A GROUP of players from the U.S. soccer team, based in Hamburg for the duration of the monthlong World Cup, were checking out the prostitutes in the German city's infamous red-light district Tuesday night. "It's called the St. Pauli District, and the streets are teeming with very aggressive Eastern European hookers," said our spy on the scene. "The team was checking things out in a group and looking at the sex shops and live sex-show places, though I didn't see them go inside. I definitely spotted Landon Donovan, one of the star U.S. forwards." An estimated 40,000 prostitutes ("pretty nasty-looking, a notch below Amsterdam") have flocked to Germany to service soccer fans. "

Diversionary tactics?

RSL 0 - 3 Chivas USA :: USA 0 - 3 CZE

Anyone feel more or less the same as they felt after RSL's first game of this season? Looking back, it seems like these two games might have a lot of parallels. I wonder what would happen if the Bruce made his team (poor Pope) watch the RSL game and then say something to the effect of "You guys really want to suck as bad as Real Salt Lake? Sorry Eddie, no offense."

:dots:

I know it's just a game, but to borrow from Moby (who borrowed from some old black guy), why does my heart feel so bad?
