I heard on the radio that there was at least one blown penalty call, I think Klein was hacked down from behind? And then Jamie gets nailed just outside the penalty box and no call? I watched the first 65 mins of the game and I thought the reffing was ok, if a little lax. Did we get screwed by the ref again?

Listen carefully to this
You - Can't - Blame - Every - Single - Fracking - Loss - On - The - Ref!!!
We lost because we suck. I get so sick of hearing this "we were so unlucky and didn't get any calls" bullcrap. We're a laughing stock and it isn't getting any better.

Reffing was okay. We lost because we stopped attacking after the goal. The game plan following the goal seemed to be, put 9 in the box and try to clear the ball with 40 yards of Cunny and hope he can run onto it and beat three guys.

Was anyone else completely disappointed with Sequiera's performance?

Grade F-
Couldnt agree more..the team needs to go back to soccer 101..you never stop playing until the final whistle blows..we just quit playing after our goal in the first half. Chicago did the right thing after the rain delay by putting in fresh legs..does Ellinger not realize he has 3 subs..was glad to see Watson come in at the last. good play in the final minutes when Harris crossed to Watson who had 2 defenders on him. Watson passed to Kries open in front on the net and the ball goes over the net...

I wasn't trying to blame our loss on the refs, and I hope the players don't either. I was just wondering. It seemed like Scholes was beyond belief on some of the non-calls, however.

"It seems that this referee, when he went to the fount of soccer knowledge, decided to gargle instead of drink." Scholes said something like that. It was funny 🙂

As a coach, when your team is getting outplayed you would love nothing more than an extended time out to get everybody together, get yourselves organized, inject a little life into the players & send them back out there. I thought the delay was the best thing that could have happened to RSL. I thought Ellinger would use that time to rethink his tactics and give a little pep talk.

I was wrong.

You'd think we'd get back to playing honest-to-god soccer after 30 minutes of bunker ball offered Chicago numerous chances to equalize. You'd think Ellinger would say "hey, we've done nothing but play bunker ball all night and we're damn lucky to be up a goal. Maybe we should change things up a bit." No, we stuck with what wasn't working. And then it was like Ellinger said "you know, Mehdi's playing defense farther than 30 yards from the goal. We can't have that." So out he comes.

No offense, coach, but sometimes I wonder what you're thinking.

The reffing wasn't bad at all. Those calls were 50/50 (I had benefit of replay).

Now that was the most frustrating game as a fan of RSL i've seen. We continued our great play from Saturday night. We were crisp, quick in our decisions and played off each other very well.

then we scored the goal.

then we quit. We couldn't pass worth ****, we couldn't do anything in the attacking 2/3. It was just horrible. Every time we gained posession we gave it away and I grunted at the TV. Just HORRIBLE.

If I was Cunny, I'ld be pissed too. do something...anything...please. I don't want to chase down balls the entire night!

wow.

Grade: Z- just horrible.

There were some questionable calls, perhaps. Maybe the players didn't mark all that well on defense on the goals. Could be that Garlick isn't that great and has lost one...or two steps. All of those things, however, could have been overcome, but...

...sorry, this loss falls squarely on the shoulders of Coach E. Terrible job. I'm with IBIK - I thought the break couldn't have happened at a better time. RSL was starting to get pummeled and were lucky to not have been scored on already. The timing was perfect to regroup, perhaps sub in a forward to keep the Fire on their heels, but no. I think they went inside and played cards for an hour, then came out and coach said "well, guys, just don't let them score, k?"

I agree that it was not the ref! Questionable calls, YES! but we know the refs suck... the good teams adjust to it... we have not!

But it was not Coach E that missed Akwari's open net Header into the ground.
Not coach E that missed Sequeira's easy header...
It was not Coach E that made Klein Shank at least one clear shot on goal...
It was not Coach E that launched Kreis' second attempt into the parking lot!

And it was certainly not Coach E that made Jeff Cunningham look like Melvin Tarley with his shoes untied...

Coach E made questionable decisions... Coach E failed to motivate his players... Coach E failed to take advantage of the lead and the break in action...

RSL lost miserably... lost horribly... they failed monumentally... but they did it as a team!
The blame lies squarely on the whole team!
