7/19 News RSL's young players facing Mexican club
Exhibition timing bad for RSL If the timing for this match is so bad, why schedule it? Season ticket holders could use their D ticket for an Open Cup match (Colorado). Checketts' two-step shuffle __________________

Morelia will sell at least 4 times as many tickets at higher prices than Colorado will. TV Azteca owns Morelia. So RSL - Morelia might be on Azteca America tape delayed, or maybe even on TV Azteca in Mexico. So they want to fill up the seats as much as possible.

Non-techie geeks may not appreciate this conversation as much, but it includes some news (edit: rather boring businessy news, but...):
My friend: "I can no longer support Real Salt Lake: http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/060717/lam029.html?.v=55" me: "Did you ever support them?" My friend: "That's not the point." Last edited by montgjules : 07-19-2006 at 10:35 AM.

That's interesting. In a couple of months, they can send out a mass text message, "Hey, we need help loading the moving van. Can you lend a hand?"

I know that they don't want to jump the gun on anything, but they only have three business weeks after this one. Considering how long it took to get anything decided in Sandy, I think that a location at least need to be chosen by Friday. Has anyone heard how the new fair grounds proposal is going?

I don't think the Fairgrounds is going anywhere. If it were we would have heard more by now. Plus House Speaker Curtis has already said he is not even going to ask the State to consider the Fairpark since it is state owned and it would be opening a bigger bag of worms. Imagine getting representitives from St. George and Logan to give up some money to help a soccer team in Salt Lake build a stadium. Rumor has it though that there are business leaders in Salt Lake that see the benefit of the stadium Downtown and are working on something right now. Hopefully though they can get something that will work and where they won't have to go back to the Salt Lake County Council. Otherwise Geneva Steel is waiting to snatch the team up if nothing else works out.

Thanks for the insight. So, I assume that if it's in the city limits, then we don't have to worry about as much about the county counsel?
The Geneva Steel thing seems somewhat shaky if MLS does have the final say in the sale, if they think that the location is a problem.

Yeh, I guess. If it's within the city limits and if the city itself can come up with the money (probably through RDA funds) then the city can just fund the project. That was what they were trying to do with the first Downtown proposal early last year until the price tag on the land went too high and Representitive Curtis Bramble freaked out and introduced legislation to ban RDA's for one year from using their money towards sports facilities. That year though is now up and RDA money could come back into play especially where they may be looking at the land alittle North and West of the Gateway that is considered to be run down and in need of development.
