Isn't it just the paper's job to report the news? Was this comment really necessary?

"Sadly for the announced crowd of 13,056 (it was half that, at best), "

I guess it is when you are trying to drive the team out of town. And while there probably weren't 13,000 there, were definitely more than 6K.

I agree! It looked like 11,000 to me! If they've ever been to some of the friendly matches on Wednesday's, they'll know what 6,000 fans looks like.

Wow! And little do they want their readers to know, that half of 13,000 would be welcomed in some MLS cities.

Funny, when one is viewing a Utah Jazz game, where thousands of empty "green seats" can be seen, and they announce a great crowd of 16,000 on hand.

I emailed him. He missed a fact that Wilde, Wilson, et al will take as truth because the trib said so.

His response:

thanks for your correspondence.
As for the attendance issue, there's no way there were more than
7,000 people in the stadium last night. The consensus of the 10 or so
people in the press box was 6,500.
Of course, the best way to get true attendance is to ask for the
"drop" count. That's the number of people who actually walk through
the gates with a ticket. When the club won't divulge the drop count,
you know something is fishy.
By the way, I covered the Utah Blaze (arena football) in their first
year and they would always provide two numbers -- the paid attendance
and the actual (drop count) attendance. There's probably a reason RSL
doesn't give out the latter number.

ie:

thanks for your correspondance,
we know you (being a fan of RSL) are a minority within this community, and we want it to stay that way. We will use any and every form of misinterpretted statistics to make the uneducated general public think less of this franchise, and because they are uneducated they will take it as gospel. This means you can say bye bye to your team.
All in all i think we're doing a good job at misrepresenting your team, and doing a good job at getting them kicked out of Utah.

I think pointing the descrepancey out is entirely fair, especially when the stadium issue is so hot right now.
