This really doesn't surprise me. About everyone I have talked to thinks that the public money used is from something like property taxes. I would honestly be ed too if it were the case, but the reporting of this whole issue has left that point unfortunately unclear for a large group of people. Thankfully the funding went through so not much to worry about anymore on that end. I just find it funny that the Yankees are getting over $200 million from New York government entities and very few are complaining. Is that because it's baseball and the Yankees or is it a reflection of the differences between Utah taxpayers and New York taxpayers?

The difference is because it is baseball and New York. We are talking Soccer, which is a game played by foreigners, as far as most Americans (and Utahans) are concerned. Not an *American* game. And, we are talking about Utah, which is possibly the most politically conservative state in the nation. That translates to: All taxes are inherently evil. Period. New Yorkers don't like taxes, but tend to view them from the perspective of the worth of services provided for the taxes spent.

In fact, it's time for some serious clarification on the proper use of the word conserative. Althought this is a republican dominated state, somehow the people here (in ignorant bliss) have failed to understand that being politically conservative is not the same as being morally conservative. If this were a truly conservative state, we would have a lottery and other revenue mechanisms, that while perhaps not morally acceptable by the religous right, would allow us to pay less "inherently evil" tax. This is the ONLY state in the union, the ONLY one, that allows not a single form of legalized gambling. Political conservatism? Yeah right. Idaho is a conservative state. Oh yeah....they have lotteries and indian casinos to suck millions of dollars out of our economy and into theirs day-by-day. So although they also have a large population affiliated with the religious (freaks....er...) right, they haven't clouded their judgement away from political conservatism. We are taxed up the a**, and the control of the religiously conservative hiding behind a screen of political conservatism is what is really "inherently evil." And for you to buy into it and actually profess we live in a conservative state and therefore feel all tax is "inherently evil" is ridiculous.

Utah is taxed more heavily than most people in Utah think, I believe. I live in a state that is more heavily taxed than Utah is, but we get great education, excellent public services, and much more for that money. The infrastructure and public services in Utah do not match up with how heavily the state is taxed.
