Here's why I ask: The reason I don't buy your optimistic opinion when it comes to RSL is because, honestly, it sounds like you don't know what you're talking about when it comes to soccer. I'm not making a personal attack, just an observation, and obviously I can't speak for anyone else - this is just me.

On this site, we're blessed to have some people with incredible knowledge of soccer - they've played, coached, reffed, commentated, etc. People like utah_heretic, Aero, fuegote, Bardguy, Deuce, JLL, (just to name a few - there are others). These guys know the game. Some you call optimists, others you call pessimists. While I tend to fall more in the middle, I read, appreciate, and respect their opinions because they understand soccer. Their arguments are well-reasoned and backed up by knowledge. I would even lump your nemesis, prk166, in that category. There are other people (optimists and pessimists alike) whose opinions I don't respect because they aren't backed up by evidence or understanding. To be blunt, that's how you come across to me.

That's not to say you need to be a soccer geek to contribute here - there are plenty of normal people who do so every day - but if you're going to engage in controversial topics regarding on-field issues, be prepared to back it up.

Again, I'm not trying to attack you....I'm offering a reason for why maybe you're not getting the respect you feel you deserve.
I'm one of the optimists who doesn't know as much about soccer as heretic and IBIK. Just in case anyone had any doubt. Perhaps a requirement of optimism is ignorance? After all, isn't ignorance bliss? 🙂

Although, I bet there are some mighty knowledgeable people who are also optimistic still.

I believe I mentioned that in my post.

I really hesitated to open this can of worms because I can see what's coming next - an "I know more about soccer than you" pissing contest. That's not the point.....the point is, if you want people to respect your opinion on a controversial topic, back it up with well-reasoned observations.

I played every day for a week at a beautiful chateau in Macon. The locals would come up; we play for about an hour; then they'd want to play an American sport. So I've also played basketball and American Football in Europe. We didn't have bats and gloves or I'd have played baseball in Europe too. What a great week. :dancing:

The fact is, ignorance is bliss in this case. However, I'm not claiming to be ignorant. Just a bad speller.

I didn't get frustrated until a flood of negative posts leave me looking for any value. I got frustrated when, any post, from me or otherwise, was lambasted with personal criticizm, cutting off interesting dicussion of the team. I got frustrated with hearing from others that they quit posting because they felt frustrated.

But, it's not about me. FIRE ELLINGER!!!

You seem to be doing a pretty good job at making it all about you, IMO...

If it makes you feel any better, when the Utes were in the middle of their funk last year, I stood by Whittingham and Ludwig. Key difference: First year head coach with a consistently powerful D, and they turned it around at the end of the year.

You have that same love for coach Ellinger. I can dig it. But don't get upset if not everyone is as soccer smart as you or agrees with you. This board would be extremely boring if there wasn't just a little bit of arguing between posters. So get back on the Ellinger stays short bus. Now is not the time to quit.

Sit back, enjoy talking about soccer and for ska's sake don't cry if someone doesn't agree with you. It's going to happen again, I guarantee it (If you haven't had a line by line thread dissection by Aero yet you haven't lived 😉).

[/attention to no one knows]
What soccer IQ or SQ do you have? I didn't see a requirement, but I assure you, my soccer knowledge is sufficient. I'll admit, I wish I could see more RSL games and maybe I'm lacking specific first-hand knowledge of the team, but I watch as many games as I can on the east coast. I'm always willing to learn more, but from a positive sense. If you see an area that you don't think I'm well educated come out, please PM me. We can discuss there.

Unfortunately, it seems that this board is filled with posters who only accept your knowledge if you agree with their negative position. That's what has set me off.

But its not about me. FIRE ELLINGER!!!

After tonight's SPECTACULAR win, we'll all be saying "Give Ellinger a raise"!

Prediction: RSL wins by 2 points. Kreis scores at least one of those goals.

It's gonna be a great game... and a great day for RSL! Yeah!

Your optimism makes me smile. :D While I'm not an optimist, I am a hopefullist. And yes, I did make that word up. I have great hope that tonight will prove to be just as you say. I believe in Kreis two.
