Due to the questionable/probably unethical nature of Xango, I think I will decline to purchase an RSL jersey next season. I've got an '05 home and '06 home and away (all signed by the full team), and was hoping to continue purchasing one every year to get signed by that year's team. I will not support or advertise for a company such as Xango, though.

What's the background on Xango? I know it's some sort of health drink, but I also hear "MLM", and "unethical" thrown around. Is this going to turn out to be a badge of shame on the team?

I remember reading something about them being investigated for overexagerated claims and stuff like that by the FDA. Doing a search to see if I can find the article. (It might have been the Salt Lake Tribune - I see something similar in the archives, but don't want to pay the fee to download it)

Here is the first thing I've found:
Quote:
The FDA has warned the makers of XanGo Juice to stop making health claims about the juice, voicing "serious concerns" about those claims.

But XanGo, which makes the juice from a tropical fruit called mangosteen, says it didn't produce the promotional materials containing those claims.
http://www.webmd.com/content/article/128/116986.htm
The article explains more what those specific claims are, and Xango's response.

I love how shady companies try to get legislators in their back pocket (like tobacco lobbyists)

Interesting. Although, nothing in this information points to Xango as being unethical or in using questionable tactics - at least proof of the same. It would appear that some of their distributors have gotten out-of-hand in their marketing of the product - against Xango policies.

Thanks for doing the research. I don't have the same concerns about this being a bad move by RSL anymore.

edit: Fine I'll delete it. I'm sure you'e all aware of what I think of the captain.

I agree on the whole not gonna buy a jersey now thing.
I love the typical sleazeball company response to the FDA letter.
"Oh no, we would never make any sort of medical claim about our product to customers. Our business plan is focused solely on the masochists who want to pay ungodly amounts of money for juice that tastes like donkey piss for no reason market segment."
