Hey now......Friday isnt here yet and Toronto hasnt made their decision yet.....They are gonna play this for all its worth and they are planning on trading some of the guys they choose from this draft for other players. They are playing the league like they have been in from the beginning...so who knows what will happen and who knows if Andy will be going anywhere...

So here's a question:
Toronto is only allowed 7 non-Canadians on their senior roster (3 US and 4 other), and 5 additional youth internationals. Does anyone know which, if any, unprotected players have Canadian roots (other than Andy)? I think I'm coming to the same conclusion as everyone else - Toronto is going to do a lot of wheeling and dealing with whoever they pick up in the expansion draft.

Jason Kreis

Does anyone have any information on why Jason Kreis was left unprotected? Does this mean he is planning to retire?

I don't know if its really the answer, but essentially RSL felt that Toronto could take only 1 player and that they would take Williams, therefore it didn't really matter who else they left unprotected.

Although, I am sure Captain Kreis might not have appreciated it. Bad precedent I think.

I'm not sure that they would take Andy over anyone. I'm sure that there are some players on the roster that they would gladly take before Andy (Jeff and Mehdi come to mind). But I don't think that Jason would be one of those players. As long as they protected those players, I'm sure the rest of the protected list might not have mattered as much.

A player who retires will not be considered part of the Senior Roster and therefore is not eligible for the draft and does not need to be protected.

My interpretation is this: If a player is planning on retiring, they are not elegible for the draft. Thus, they would not be included in the list of available players. So Jason's name on that list might show that he is NOT planning on retiring yet. Of course, my logic might be faulty. Broome is there too, even though it would appear that he will retire. Does anyone know of specific players that have definetly announced retirement and either do or do not appear on the list? That might disprove my theory.

I think that RSL figured that Jason would not be selected in the expansion - It is risky enough for a team start out with a player that has had one recent ACL surgery, and that much more risky to select the same one when they are two years older and have had TWO ACL surgeries. I would assume that RSL had the decency to consult Jason on the matter before they left him available to explain their reasoning.

I am stunned...

What? I hope they knew what they were doing leaving him open. BUt losing a front line player was not what we needed.

I'm stunned too. But wasn't Kries basically becoming a figurehead like the queen? Is his leaving really that damaging to RSL? I liked him pulled further back, but we have people who can play that position.
I'm sad to see him go, but objectively i don't think that was a death blow.
