An open letter to Dave Checketts Dear Dave Checketts:
Do you realize what you have done here in Utah? You have initiated an irreversible revolution in the culture, economy and entertainment/sports industry. When you won the bid for a professional soccer team, that set in motion a number of events which have already led to landing the first Men’s World Cup Qualifier in this state. Not only will we now enjoy the highest level of soccer that this country has to offer (MLS), but we will also bring the highest level of international soccer to this once-distant outpost. When you wrote a check for $10 million for the rights to the newest MLS franchise, you took a giant step in placing the state of Utah on the international map of soccer. What’s next? A visit from Real Madrid? With all that has been happening lately, I wouldn’t be surprised. We already have the commitment of a pair of visits from one of Germany’s top-flight teams. With your efforts to establish a semi-formal relationship with Real Madrid, perhaps you can succeed in bringing the world’s most renown soccer team to this state as well. Because of the wheels you have set in motion, we now have a handful of national team members on our roster, the highest-scoring player in the league and a host of promising talent – not to mention one of the savviest coaches in the country. You didn’t have to bring this franchise to Salt Lake City. You could have easily located it in any number of cities throughout the U.S. But, because of your fondness for, and commitment to, this state and what it represents, you brought this team to Utah. Now, we are on the verge of the team’s inaugural season, a visit from the Men’s national team, a pair of visits from a Bundesliga team, and many, many other wonderful opportunities and memories that we otherwise wouldn’t have had. Thanks for putting the state of Utah on the map of world soccer. Thanks for bringing Real to Salt Lake. I, and many other avid soccer fans, will repay you with our loyalty, support and enthusiasm. Thank you Dave. Go Real! Last edited by Arelius : 02-24-2005 at 04:53 PM.

👍 Great post, Arelius. You summed up what we're all feeling. What a time to be a soccer fan in Utah (even those of us not actually IN Utah).

Hey, that isn't a bad idea. We could send it to the Trib and Des News as a letter to the editor. Last edited by the cup : 02-26-2005 at 09:21 PM.
