Opening Night Jitters

http://www.slweekly.com/editorial/2005/lake_2005-04-07.cfm
Quote:
In its much-anticipated season/franchise opener versus the NY/NJ Metro Stars, fledgling foosballers Real Salt Lake battled to an epic tie before a crowd just 77,500 fans shy of Giants Stadiumโ€™s 78,000-seat capacity. (Note: The home team gave away more than 12,000 tickets.)
If you read the other two paragraphs it is a little more witty than this... NOT!

OK I am not getting angry about it I am just posting it here because it is about RSL's first match!

Besides we have Dipsy
Quote:
Sufficed to say, of Salt Lake Cityโ€™s two big-league sports franchises, one has a place to play, the other has Dipsy Selolwane
๐Ÿ˜•
Not sure what that is supposed to mean but for me, I am damn proud to have Dipsy on our team!
Actually not sure if I am supposed to get mad or not! I suppose the writer has made his position clear as mud, and as Wiley Coyote used to say 'mud spelled backwards is dum...'

Weekly's probably just trying to erk people like us and make haters laugh.
Although, I doubt it work do anything to either group.

How many Utes or Cougar fans would have attended their games if the weather was like the Metros/RSL match?
Seriously.

SLC Weekly is really good or it is really bad. This is one of the times it is really bad. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Anyone with half a brain would see this for the crap that it is. It sounds like he is just a baseball fan trying to tweak our noses. I guess we'll show him in the end though.

Well, there wouldn't have been any Utes fans there. They barely show up when their team is winning in perfect weather. And there would have probably been as many Cougar fans as there were at the game, but no more.

That article is so boring that I can't even think of a sarcastic putdown.

Yawn.

Now the Jazz 111-86 loss to the Timberwolves on ESPN last night...THAT was something incredible to watch! 197 combined points!

Man, I should write for a paper.

๐Ÿ‘ Settle his hash.

I sent him the following response:
Quote:
First of all, you should know that they were playing in a bloody hurricane (rain and wind gusting to 45 mph)! Would ANY of your favorites even consider playing in those conditions? I'd like to see one of them try to do a slam dunk with the wind blowing like that against him. Picture him floating backwards, out of reach of the hoop.

Second, for the players mentioned with such dripping disdain to have made those plays under those conditions, they had to be better athletes than 80 percent of the players on your other professional team.

Third, how many of the Jazz fans would come out to support them, if the game were held outside in such weather? Would you? Huh? ...fair weather fans!

Fourth, RSL does not have a stadium of their own, however they just started. That was their first game, ever. Did the Jazz have a stadium of their own when they first started (I actually don't know the answer to that, but assume a negative)? They have been working hard to get one, even though a like minded person legislated a change in the rules in mid-game (foul!). I have no doubt that they will get their own stadium in due time.

Last, there were sports writers and commentators around when the Jazz originally came here who treated them about as well as you have RSL. They have all now been proven to be jerks and idiots.

Conclusion: you are not alone, but perhaps you should choose your company better.

Jim Umber
I hope that makes him think, just a little about his position.
