I thought that the U of U was somewhat unprepared (especially the concessions -- ran out of hot dogs, huge slow lines, etc.), but c'mon. Have these people never been to a sporting event before? Or any kind of event for that matter?

I was waiting for my friend outside the stadium until 20 minutes before the match started. Yes, there was a crowd outside the ticket windows, but it certainly didn't look ridiculously long.

I noticed that the crowds at the corner gates to actually go into the stadium were bigger, so we went in the middle gate on the east side. I walked right up to the bag search and plunked my purse down -- no waiting.

We were in our seats a few minutes before the match started.

Unless people showed up at 1 pm on the dot and expected someone to greet them at the curb with tickets, run through security, and maneuver past the line for Dippin' Dots in about 2.2 seconds, I don't see what the big deal is.

But whatever...

The funny thing is that the lines actually got LONGER as soon as the game started. We were expecting a couple of friends for the game that hadn't shown up so my wife kindly waited outside the stadium with their tickets for a bout 10 minutes after the game started. She said that as soon as the game started, the lines went crazy and all of a sudden there were twice as many people waiting to get tickets. It took her another 10 minutes just to get through the gates. Weird.

So, bottom line is, people are dumb. You can't show up to any major sporting event right before it starts and expect to just walk up, buy a ticket, walk in, buy your grub and sit down. Especially on an opening day.

Yep, that's the bottom line. The problem is that no one wants to admit that they are dumb. They would rather blame someone else rather than taking responsibility for their own dumbness.

Life makes so much more sense when you just realize that one simple fact.

So is that a letter to the editor? From the title "The Rant", I assume it is a News/Sports editorial. Where do they get off? Knockin soccer and MLS as if it's not worthy of a place in the American sports Pantheon. Saying no one will show up, and it wont work. And then after too many people show they say.."See, I told you. Even I know that soccer has huge walk-up crowds...etc".

The term is Hyppocrite...or Jerkoff. Whichever you prefer. They are full of somethin.

❗

When we went in, just before the game, to show off the large jersey, The crowds at the ticket booths weren't that bad. There were lines, but not that long. That means that most of the people didn't come at the last minute, but came LATE, then tried to get their tickets. Maybe they need to start the games on Mormon Standard Time (15 minutes late), to accomodate all those latecomers.

It does sound like the Ticket Booth people need to get a little more efficiency going, but really, if people come to an event like that LATE, what do they expect? It takes time to buy tickets and get into the stadium, and find your seats.

Still...Half-time...That's pretty bad!

I noticed and was surprised that the game did not start at 1pm. In fact I think it did start 10 to 15 min later than it was suppose to and this was a ESPN2 game. Go figure.

Wasn't it because they were showing some college's scrimmage? It's also the reason that most people missed the last few minutes of the game on their Tivos.

Which reminds me, I still haven't seen the game. If there is anybody out there that taped it and can let me borrow it, I'd be forever grateful.

One thing people (casual fans or newbies) don't realize is that in American football you can come in 45 min late and miss only the first half of the first quarter (see usual 4+ hour game), while in soccer, where the clock runs non-stop - 20 min. late is significant, 45 min late is... well... half the game.
