That is too bad for the MLS... He is a good player and I was actually looking forward to seeing him, and the SMURFquakes, play Real Salt Lake. I suppose I will have to wait til the USMNT comes to play in our new stadium.

This is a tough blow for MLS. He was one of the only players with mainstream name recognition out there. I was looking forward to seeing him play too... maybe he'll be back in a few years.

👍 Very interesting article. And yes, I agree. I'm glad we won't have to play against him.

Bummer, I wanted to see him play against our guys. Good for us, not so much for MLS as a whole.

I guess I can rest easy, knowing I've already seen him playing. Of course, that game they lost to the Crapids, but oh well...

I listened to the teleconference via the web site today and he mostly spoke of the decision as a personal one. Landon had nothing but praise and thanks to MLS for the help they've been to him with his growth. He said absolutely that he would be back in MLS somewhere down the line.
Basically, the decision to come over from Germany was made because he was young and uncomfortable in Germany. Lack of playing time, inexperience, some depression, and general dissastisfaction brought him back to America. But now, he has grown up a lot both as a player and as a person and feels ready to "re-tackle" Germany. He is going over there very "humble" but somewhat cautious, with a promise that he won't just be riding the bench over there. He said that his experience in MLS has only helped him and he looks forward to the challenge. He also said that his German was amazingly good. Most of the questions in the teleconference were quite good. It is sad to lose a player from the league with that much reputation and recognition. And, as a side note, the SmurfQuakes said they will be persuing Clint Mathis.

Maybe SJ will get Mathis because everyone will feel sorry they lost Donovan. I'm not sure how the allocations work, but it seems like it's pretty subjective to how MLS wants it to go. WE CALLED MATHIS FIRST!

(Can not remember where I saw it sorry... I would link if I knew where to point it too.) So Donovan may have left because he was worried his squad would be stripped to the bone in order to make it cheaper to move it somewhere else later on. No extremely high payed players bulking out the cap room, now they can move the "cheap seats to the trailer park", so to speak! That is a slam on Houston in case you missed it! :p
