Did Laser Luke Kreamalmeyer beat Ellinger at golf?

I would have rather seen Luke off the bench when Clint went out.

We were decimated by injuries for a road game. Rusty was out, Clint Mathis left early, Andy Williams was pulled, D.J. left early and we played with a field player in goal to finish the game. We lost by a gift of a hand ball pk.

I would be embarrassed if I was a chivas fan. They barely squeeked one out at home against an injury riddled expansion team. What we had on the field was not indicative of what ReAl can accomplish. I look forward to smoking those guys when they play in Salt Lake.

As already noted, let's keep in mind that we are an expansion team. In my years of watching different sports, expansion teams tend to take a few seasons to settle in and starting winning. The first few years involve a lot of growing pains.

On the bright side of things, the MLS doesn't have relegation. 🙄
In some countries, it's not uncommon for a team to make it to the top flight for the first time in a very long time, only to go right back down again the next year.

So far we've had to play 4 of 6 games on the road. With 4 of the next 5 in the friendly supportive confines of Rice-Eccles we'll start turning things around. Let's all show up this weekend, be loud, and show our team that we'll be there through the bad times as well as the good times.

Here, Here!!

After watching the game on Saturday, I had to take a full day off from soccer to allow myself to relax. (I actually have to do this everytime we lose) After a refreshing day off, I have again realized that the sky is in fact NOT falling. Here's my points for the game and the season:

1) We dominated the first 15 minutes of the game. I was really impressed with our ability to actually hold the ball and control the game for the first part of the game.

2) When Clint went out, we died. It seemed we all of a sudden felt that we needed to bunker-down on D because Chivas had the ball almost exclusively in our half of the field. When we got it back, we just kicked it right back to them. To me, this really spoke to Mathis' contribution to the offense. I believe he is the catalyst that draws attention from the other team as he controls the flow of our offense. After he left, we looked lost.

3) Rojas was GOOD! The PK (that shouldn't have been) wasn't his fault. He saved Countess and a potential goal on another play. He was the standout player on the defense. Has the previous weeks bench been the wakeup call he needed? He finally played the game I knew he was capable of!

4) Tiger, Tiger, Tiger!!! What a left foot! Man, he unleashed a rocket from the top of the box on Saturday! Guzan made an awesome save to prevent that one from going in. Tiger is going to give people fits all season with his speed and footwork. Just wait until he starts to really get to know his teamates.

5) Countess is STILL the man. His final save speaks volumes to his competitive spirit and his attitude.

6) We are an expansion team. Period. We have a bunch of guys other teams didn't want. Many are proving that their previous teams were dead wrong. Others are showing why they weren't protected. It's all to be expected. If anything, I think we found a few gems in the expansion draft.

7) This IS still MLS. Slow starts are the norm.

8) Our guys are still learning to play with each other and the coaches are still trying to figure out the proper chemistry both in personnel and formation.

9) We still have needs that weren't met before the season. We don't have the benefit of having had players develop under our system. We had to piece an entire team together from a limited player pool. We have players that are acting as stop-gaps and we will continue to get abused from time-to-time because of it. This is to be expected from an expansion franchise.

10) We don't have the benefit of a Chivas-esque relationship to bring in our good players, yet we're still a better team than Chivas.

11) Chivas had WAY more to play for last Saturday. Sure, it was a hard loss to be the first team to lose to Chivas. However, they had much more to lose in that game. For us, it was just another road game. For them, it was pretty much a "must win". If they couldn't beat us, at home, who are they going to beat? Seriously? Even WITH the win, they have to be a little worried. It took some seriously "homer" calls from the ref to give them that game.

12) We are NOT the '98 Fire. That was a different time. The league is different and top to bottom, a lot better. They should not be the standard by which we measure ourselves.

13) Our fans are better than their fans. period.

14) I think RSL would be better with Williams on the bench right now. Let Mathis play A-Mid and put another forward up top. Give Cila a start. He's big and we need some serious muscle up top.

15) Let Luke start wide-right. He's got speed and would be a good compliment to Tiger.

16) If Rojas continues his play from Saturday, can you imagine the backline of Rusty, Dunny, Pope and Rojas???

IS IT SATURDAY YET???

And two of those road games were against LA and FCD who have won nearly all their games. We also played a lot better in the second half with better possesion and chances. Though we need more chances. Kamler was definately fouled in the box as the replay shows the defender kicking Kamler's foot and tripping him as he was going toward goal. That should have been a PK for RSL.

Plus let us not forget Suarez's double forearm block of the ball when it was kicked at him while he was standing in the box. A handball PK there would have been justice. 😠

Uneven calls by the Refs are probably the worst part of watching or playing a game. If the ref makes bad calls at least let them be even!

One single word sums up the most important criteria that should be reasonably expected of an official in any sport....

CONSISTENCY

Thanks for all the even-keeled and interesting responses. After a couple days I am no longer ready to jump off the bridge. If the playoffs started today, we would still be in.

I agree, we need to be as loud as ever on Saturday. I maintain that our guys don't look hungry, only DJ seems to really want the win. Unfortunately, DJ can only keep goals out, he can't put 'em in. Maybe if we are extra loud it will inspire our boys.

I hope all the injuries are not serious.
