Embarrassed. [R] RSL was, I am, we all should be. What an awful, awful game. I think the PK was bad too, but there is no way we shouldn't have tied it up.
I'm embarrassed because: - Dipsy misses from point blank range and then completely whiffs a few minutes later in the box. - The Camera would cut away to the crowd or something during our goal kicks. By the time the camera was back to the action, Chivas had the ball again. - Our team not only seems to lack any creativity, they are S L O W . . - We lost to Chivas. We are the first team to lose to them ever, and I get the feeling that any team that loses to them will be embarrassed all season long. - If teams lose to us from now on it will be an embarrassment. We have started off our franchise with a losing tradition. - Leighton O'Brien. I feel completely embarrassed by saturday's game, the team was completely inept. We are the only team in the league that wouldn't have tied or won that game. A few players played pretty well, but DJ was the only one who seemed to really care or really be aggressive. The other guys looked like they were playing alright but didn't really care about the result. Embarrassing. __________________

I hope the players are embarrassed. I hope they will resolve to do better. To lose to the only team in the division that hadn't won a single game...The Seady Cheetos! That IS embarrasing. It SHOULD be embarrasing.
What I really don't understand, is why, with such players as we have, we can't get consistant and aggressive play. It doesn't make sense. __________________

There's a reason Andy Williams has bounced around the league so much. He has skills, but too often (cliche alert) he just doesn't come to play.
Sure we're embarrassed. Actually, I'm disgusted as well. No way do we lose to this team. But we did, so it's on to the next one. OBTW, we do get the cheetos three more times, and we can make amends by pounding them in those games. Of course, I thought this one could be our breakout game. You know, first road win, build momentum as we head into a home game against good team, and finish the first quarter of the season having established ourselves. But we didn't, so it's on to the next one. I don't think we've established a losing tradition. We haven't established anything at all. It's tough to stay positive after the gamewatching equivalent of a root canal, but I refuse to get down on this team. It's just too early to do that. We need to pack (and rock) the house against the Galaxy, and really put in the effort to do the same when the cheetos come to town on the 18th. You'd be surprised how quickly you can turn around a season with a couple of good peformances. We've only played six games. So of course we wish we were doing better, and our four road games have produced a grand total of one point. That has to change. we just haven't developed the team chemistry we need yet. It will come--hopefully sooner than later. But we still rule RES. Let's keep that going.

There is nothing to say... I am officially coming to grips with the fact that our players with a few exceptions don't play like they care one way or the other.

Well, I look at it this way, Chivas was going to win a game sometime. They couldn't keep loosing every game so at least we can say it's due to us be an expansion team.
Also, the game was just weird. First the hand ball that would have been called a hand ball in every league around the world so I don't have a problem with that, but I think it was outside the box. The ref could have easily called for a free kick outside the box instead of a PK. Second, we came very close to scoring towards the end after some great teamwork but Guzan made a save with his foot. Again, just a weird game. That was a lucky save which had it gone in the game ends in a tie. One thing that was embarrasing though was how our defense let Ezra Hendrickson walk right through the box and get a shot off towards the end of the game. Nobody even tried to stop him. I say we chalk that one up to the planets being out of alignment and get ready for this Saturday. Weather wise it looks like showers durring the week but the weekend should be great. Is it Saturday yet?

The only thing that makes me feel even slightly better about Saturday is the penaltytacular lameness of the Crapids. And that only helped a little, considering that Max and Christian kept yammering on about LA's first visit to SL next weekend.
I thought our defense played really quite well... Sigi had it dead-on though, when he kept pointing out how none of the midfielders were supporting Jason up front. It wasn't particularly helpful that our midfield seemed flat-footed and unable to anticipate anything, thus resulting in us getting beat to practically every single second ball. That, I suspect, will be addressed by Coach E this week in training, but there's nothing anyone can do about the injuries, which sucks even more. Sigh.

This is my running commentary during the game. Afterwards, I looked at it and I realized its pretty negative. However, it doesn’t necessarily reflect how I feel about the team generally. I am still absolutely ecstatic that we have a MLS team in Utah and I will support them til the end.
RSL/Chivas 1) Good start. 2) Poor attendance. 3) Not enough offense. It always seems like we’re playing one man down. 4) Stupidest penalty call I’ve ever seen. 5) Referee 1 : 0 RSL 6) Haven’t understood Ellinger’s obsession with O’Brien. 7) O’Brien for Williams? No comparison. 8) Whitfield seems a little tentative. 9) O’Brien has a hard time going forward. 10) We’re still struggling on getting shots off. 11) Save of the season by Countess! 12) It seems we are lacking the midfield transition to string things together for the offense. 13) Friggin penalty on Kammler!!!! 14) Dipsy has to bury that shot! 15) O’Brien sucks! 16) Zion’s bank play of the game: throwing the ball into the linesman’s head. 17) Dipsy didn’t impress once again. 18) I can’t believe Chivas got their first win off of us. Questions after the game: 1) Williams plays way too far back. 2) How long will Countess be out? Will Nolly start next week? Or maybe Kammler? 3) What about Cleetus? 4) Let’s give Cila a chance; Dispy gets muscled off the ball too easily. Last edited by AreliusII : 05-09-2005 at 09:22 AM.
