6/4 Match Loyalists Thoughts

Okay, I just got in from a whirlwind week-end! It was awesome! A few poorly articulated thoughts...

The big flag was great!

The yellow cards were even better! I had a lot of my Sam's Army friends tell me how cool it looked even from over where they were sitting. Apparently they all noticed and got a good laugh out of it.

We all have seen the kudos SLC is getting for fan attendance at this game. I think it was excellent, and have had many people from other MLS towns comment on being surprized that so many people had RSL gear. SLC WILL get another Nats game, no question.

I understand the reason why Sam's was in the South, but ohhh how I wish they had been closer to us.

We (The Loyalists) did a great job with the chants in the first match. All credit to Alianza and Fuegote for that. Give 'em rep if you see them. "Chivas, Costa Rica" was really good. "Habemus Papam" worked well I think. I am a little surprized more people didn't know chants to Guantanamera and Conga, but I am sure that will come in time. Overall, great energy from our section during the USMNT match! Jeff McNeis really liked the recognition! (I learned that trick when I used to play in punk rock bands...always thank police and security guards profusely and you will always be treated well.)

The RSL match, I have one question...is the honeymoon over yet?

I was in the airport with FC Dallas this afternoon. I asked Garlick if he couldn't have just let a couple through. He laughed and talked a bit. Oddly, the starting FC Dallas players were cooler than the bench warmers.

Our pregame tailgate put the Barnburners' tailgate last week to shame. Seriously. I know a lot of people are going back wishing that they could have a supporters club like ours (cough*columbus*cough).

On the flight back I was counting, and if I am right this was my 25th cap. I have to say that this was definately the best crowd for a USMNT match I have ever seen.

Also, can I go back to hating Lanykins now?

I am afraid the honeymoon is definetly ending. It is like we couldn't score in a brothel.

One more thought, and this may be heresy....

Watching a WCQ and an MLS match back to back like that really brought home to me (probably for the first time) just how huge the divide is between soccer played at the elite levels and MLS soccer.

And why weren't people more excited when the Trinidad and Tobago score was announced? It is good for the U.S. and really nice for RSL, even if Fitzpatrick and Rojas were unused subs.

Old Ska, YOU RULE!
Thank you so much for sneaking us in!
Alianza and I bought our tickets before the world of the Loyalists was brought before us. When we first arrived on Saturday, our seats were in the North West Endzone. My dad, Alianza and I were early, we were banging our drums and cowbells and people just kept giving us the strangest looks.

One cantankerous old fool walked in and saw that his row was right in front of us. He rolled his eyes, and came up to us and said, "I hope you run out of energy," "can i but those from you (referring to the cowbells)". and then he said (this is my favorite), "do you have any cotton for my ears?"

I gave him my already used ear plugs.

Alianza then went to old ska for help and he got us in with the Loyalists. It was awesome. Kudos to you for writing down our play list for the second half, that made chanting easier.

Loyal1, it was great sitting closer to you so we could bounce ideas off each other, It also helped that I had a drum this time.

And Alianza, thanks for always reminding us that it was getting to quiet by saying, "it's pretty quiet" as a cue

Kudos to Loyal1 for pointing out to the loud "fan" the difference between a supporters group and a drunk heckler.

I guess being a teacher helps. I don't think I would know how to handle that situation, but it was definitely developing into a situation. 🙄 I was seeing looks from people all around.

Well done, Loyal1. Hey that rhymes! Maybe we can make a chant out of it. 😉
