Lastly, to answer Ska's question:
No idea. I know that Pres. Hinckley was a GOP delegate in the past. But besides that, I would guess that perhaps Pres. Monson was possibly a past Democrat-elected official over Pres. Faust. Its possible that Monson's trip to Toronto liberalized him. Then again, Faust did serve in Brazil for a time...
🙂
So whats the answer?

Lets let a few other people weigh in.

And I should qualify it just a little..."Democrat or the equivalent" if the person held elected office in another country.

I'm dying to mock this one... 😉

Another trivia question: how many members of the First Presidency were men of color?

Men of color could have an interesting definition, but I'm still guessing none... yet. There are lots of different cultures represented slightly down the leadership structure.

About the first question, back in the 1800's when Utah was trying to get admitted to the Union, one of the holdbacks was that the LDS people all seemed to vote together (we've changed about 1% since then, so that's good). So the story goes that half the people were assigned to become democrat and half assigned to become republican, or whatever the parties were back then exactly. So I don't know the answer, but I suspect that past LDS leadership is a little more diverse than people guess. Also, "democrat" has not always been equivalent with "liberal." These things morph over time.

Nope, the answer is 2. One was Brown and the other was Tanner.

The First Presidency essentially did the same thing in the late 1990s, except this time no one listened.

🙁
