The thing is, Mathis just isn't a quote-on-quote "engine" type midfielder. When at his best, he's a stealthy player who like to pop up in key situations.

Don't know if I dare ask the question: Does Williams deserve another crack there, or should he banished to the wings or bench? Personally don't know that he can, but who else can you throw in there?

Williams was on the wing for this match. Williams and Mathis are probably our two best passers, and they don't get a whole lot of service.

What about Besagno? Is he an 'engine' player? What do y'all think?

I think Williams played well tonight. He at least tried a lot harder (to me).
Even with the brute Umo on him.

Besagno is a holding mid a la Chris Armas or Mastroeni.

Everybody sing with me: We can't score in a brothel. We can't score in a brothel....

I thought Williams was okay, when he actually got the ball. Do you think he could handle the attacking midfield role all by himself, or would he need another person (ie. Mathis) to help him out?

Anyway, I'm off for now. Take it easy, boys and girls.

Ditto, its later here. My last post tonight.
But WIlliams seemed to be a good attacking mid for Chicago. Why not SLC?

Meh, I thought the team played really well. Better than they have in the last few weeks, with the exception of the last half of the Catolica match.

Sure, we have some work to do. But let's face it, we're an expansion team! We're not supposed to do well with players that other teams didn't want anymore, however, we're still in a playoff spot, and Colorado lost again today. We're doing fine. Ellinger is learning his players, and the players are learning each other. I'm not jumping ship.

Loyal till I die.

Some thoughts...

Seriously, we are really lucky that match was not 2-0. The announcers kept saying it should have been 3 -0 or 4 - 0, but honestly, it really should have been 2 - 0.

Williams played hard, really hard. Whatever motivated him last game needs to be continued. I know that he has his ups and downs, so I try not to ever pin to much of my hope on him, but still...

We have no offense. None at all. This fact, above all others, sucks the most. I now think Ellinger's early season choice of formations was not just a stupid mistake, but was really either trying to hide our biggest weakness or trying to make the best of what we have.

Watson played well, I think. He should have been getting playing time all along, and needs to get more from here on out. Lets see what he can do. The writing is clearly on the wall for Mathis.

The writing may be on the wall for Kreis also. My prediciton: no way does he reach 100 goals this year. He will probably finish out the season, but this will be his last as a player in MLS. MAybe he stays with the team in a coaching capacity.

I am going to agree wit Neil... Sorry, ska, but you're a bit of a doomsday poster and I think you're a bit over the top w/ that.

We are not performing great, but we're improving. It'll gel eventually, even if it takes a year or so. I'm just happy to be here.
