Have you seen MISL? Previous leagues with the 2 and 3 point plays were much less cool than the current MISL. To me it has everything that is cool about basketball, but is soccer.

Also, I can't remember ever watching a pro indoor soccer match on tv. I wonder what that would be like. My season tickets are right up on the glass.

For some reason, every time I go to the gym on Sundays, someone inevitably has that arena football stuff on.

Between that, baseball, and Fox News Channel, I generally opt for listening to the iPod and watching the seconds tick away on the treadmill instead.

And I happen to like indoor soccer. I was the biggest Freezz groupie in town (well, mostly because half the team was people I know, but...).

However, if you are watching AFL there is always that idea in the back of your head that these guys couldn't hack it in the NFL. It's like watching the Stingers or the PDL. I would rather watch the world's best lawn bowlers than AFL.

So, do you watch the MLS, because for the most part they are not the best players in the world, and it is definately not the best league in the world.

MLS is the best soccer league in the USA. That's works for me.

I don't care about the AFL but if the market demands it then they'll succeed. I've been a football fan all my life, and I've given the indoor game a try, and I just don't care for it. I agree, however, that Utah will support it and can do well without those of us who don't care.

As for the anti-other-sports stuff that crops up form time to time among soccer fans, it does exist but it there are reasons for that.

There are plenty of soccer fans, usually those of us who've been at this for awhile, who have a massive chip on our collective shoulder about how soccer has been singled out for ridicule by the sports media and fans of the Big Four at every turn. For that reason, a significant number of purist/longtime soccer fans will not support other sports, and engage in schadenfreude with every steroid scandal, millionaire holdout, and felony arrest among the Big Four sports.

Then there's the issue of competing for the entertainment dollar.

I understand it--soccer has been treated poorly by fans and media types involved in other sports--but I've always considered it counterproductive. I believe we should cheer for soccer, not against other sports. My experience is that most of my fellow soccer fans actually like other sports. I'm big into football, college basketball, and cycling, in addition to soccer. Soccer is my favorite, but other sports are on my calendar as well.

So bring on the AFL. I'm not a fan, but not because I refuse to enjoy anything but soccer. I'm not a fan because the AFL just isn't my thing. Neither is NASCAR, but they're doing fine without me.

Well put! I'm a big college football fan, but not sure I'll like the AFL. It may be entertaining, but I can't really afford any more of my "leisure" time on anything else at this point. Maybe when I'm retired and all of my kids have moved away. :D

MLS is the top level of soccer this country has to offer, and soccer is my favorite sport. Do you really think I would have the time and energy to follow a foreign league through box scores and internet posts, just because their level of talent is higher? At least I can watch the MLS games.

BTW the major difference between indoor soccer and AFL is that some kids actually like playing indoor and have played it for years, then they choose to make a living out of it. Nobody wants to be in the AFL, they end up there because they are SECOND RATE athletes and failed to graduate when they were at college.

Rep me! I'm on fire!
