Arena Football League I've been listening to 1280 over the last few days and they have been talking about the AFL an awful lot. And every time the interview someone, I get the feeling that the person's second job is used car salesman, especially Danny White. Has anyone else been listening and got the feeling that they are really trying to give the hard sell for the whole thing?
And just out of curiosity, is anyone interested in the Utah AFL team at all? How well do you think it will do? __________________

To be completely honest... I have a wait and see attitude about AFL.
I am not really that interested but I am willing to go to a game or two to see what it is like. I don't think we as soccer fans can say we won't give it the benefit of a doubt... and then expect other people to give RSL the benefit of a doubt. that would be hypocritical (sp?) of us. I think there is room in Utah for another sport. Even if it does seem unoriginal, meaning copying a proven sport, kind of like indoor soccer copying the beautiful game. Not as interesting but worth a look-see. Soccer will never be de-throwned as my first sport.

We have a AFL team here in central Florida. Its pretty cool. Indoor football crowds can be very loud.
Its not in the same level as MLS but its fun for a few games a year.

I personally am not against the Utah AFL team at all. In fact, I'll probably check out a few games. I'm not worried that it will affect RSL much at all. It's certainly not the NFL though.

I must admit that this is something the intrigues me. I am a sport junkie, so it just gives me something else to spend my money on. I was not huge into soccer before RSL came, and now I would say that it is one of my favorite sports. I won't miss an RSL game to go, but I am sure that I will be at the home opener for the Utah Blaze.

The Blaze is not too bad I guess. At least it's not the Blazze. And why is it that almost every single team in Utah must have at least one "Z" in it. I wish that we had Georgia's name, the Force though. That is just awesome. It would be great to go to games dress as a Jedi and bring a lightsaber to the game. __________________

Yeah, but they stole that name from Cleveland's indoor team. As far as pro indoor soccer goes...I have been going to indoor pro matches since '84. It really is an incredible sport. And getting used to watching fast offensive play non-stop for 60 minutes has made me much more of an astute observer of the much more slowly-paced outdoor game. And how can you not love a soccer play-off that has two legs, both matches with a final score of 10-9? Awesome. Furthermore, it is played during MLS' off-season for the most part.

I love sports. That doesn't mean that I'm anywhere even remotely as excited for the AFL franchise as I was for the MLS franchise, but sure, I'll czech it out. It does seem a tad gimmicky to me though, it's a knock-off of another sport, and I'm not all that crazy about the NFL anyway.
I heard on 1280 today that the AFL's top payed player, Tony Graziani, makes $150k. That makes MLS seem big-time, doesn't it! __________________

Couldn't care less, but I'm not in Utah right now so my vote is not worth much.
I prefer the college game over the NFL as it is, so the AFL is very low on my list of sports priorities. Now if it was the real AFL--the Australian Football League--I would give it a try.
