The songs that have been published on the loyalists website are sad. How are we supposed to strike fear into our enemies hearts with tunes and lyrics such as these. There have been a few good suggestions on this thread but most make me sick. If you want to hear some songs I picked up in England and have adapted to RSL look for the loud nut in the cheap seats surrounded by people sitting quietly in their seats. Basic chant RED ARMY - BOOM-BOOM RED ARMY BOOM-BOOM. Repeat as necessary. I like the Misfits and will use it often. PLAY UP SALT LAKE, SALT LAKE PLAY UP.

First: Welcome to the Forum
Second: Please provide a translation for your first post and/or please don't take harmful or illegal drugs before posting. Third: We appreciate free advice that has no point other than to ridicule what others have worked hard on. If you would like to contribute, then please post alternatives besides "Basic chant RED ARMY - BOOM-BOOM RED ARMY BOOM-BOOM. Repeat as necessary" And someone please explain what "PLAY UP SALT LAKE, SALT LAKE PLAY UP" means, besides being just a really dumb chant?

Getting tired of saying this--it's not RED, it's CLARET.

Bishops is right, there are some sad songs, and there are some good ones. Prime is right, we ought not insult people who have tried to make something out of nothing here in the expansion teams first days. But I think one thing we want to keep in mind Bishops is that we are just a bunch of idiots cheering on a team. None of us will strike fear into anyone's hearts, especially not by singing a song. We welcome any of your suggestions, but please use a little tact when suggesting them. Your tunes sound interesting, but what tune do they go to? As far as chants go, I say the more the merrier, and we're all open to suggestions. I even managed to get them to attempt to sing my favorite Casbah tune, although it failed miserably. Maybe we'll practice it a little at the next tailgate.

You know, maybe I'm alone in this, but....every time I hear chanting on games on TV, I have absolutely no clue what the lyrics actually are. Unless it's something really really simple. Lyrics are overrated. Chanting as a cohesive unit with as many people as possible is really all that matters.

๐ Some people seem to think that the key is catchey, popular, rock tunes, with the lyrics changed for soccer. But those won't fly for several reasons. First and formost, no one else knows the tune. And most can't really sing it anyway.
The real key is simplicity. Pick a well known, simple tune. Children's songs are good as most people recognize them and can sing them. Add SIMPLE soccer lyrics. And let everyone know ahead of time. If you make up something at a game, I can guarantee it won't go. No one will even know what your doing. __________________

Well said. The Fire fans are the best in the league, and their signature chant is basically the word "Fire" sung over and over again. I've been at games where they sang it for 20 minutes straight, building and building until their team scored a goal and the place went nuts. It was as if the fans willed the team to score. Gave me chills, and I'm not a Fire fan. Simple and effective.

First off, I apologize for any remarks I made that may have been offensive. I just get really worked up about soccer. Secondly, I think we need to keep it simple. Not one of us can strike fear into our opponents hearts, but twenty thousand of us unified in a chant can. We can be the 12th man on the field. We can give our team a true home field advantage. I think chants and songs should have as few words as possible. It's easier to stay unified that way. I love R-S-Ellinger as posted by AreliusII earlier in this thread. My earlier suggestion red army, clap- clap, is not really a song with a tune. Just a chant. Sorry, I just don't think "claret army" has that same ring to it. ๐ PS.Play up salt lake comes from "Play up Pompey". I am a supporter of Portsmouth FC, who whipped Southhampton 4-1 yesterday. Oh, I consider my self a supporter of team, not just a fan. Fans tend to jump ship when their "team" ends up at the bottom of the table.

Good points--agree that simple is best. And it's tough to fit "claret" into a chant, so I suggest we don't try. That said, I'm old enough to not be excited about chanting for a "red army" even if the Soviet Union is dead and buried. Call it personal preference--too much Marine in me. But the basic idea is very good. A simple cheer that the whole crowd can pick up. In my experience, suggested chants will come and go but the best (and most effective) ones will catch on. We've only had one home game--give it some time. Portsmouth really took 'em to the woodshed. Good on Pompey.
