Hey Guys....Spencer Checketts Here

Whats Up RSL Fans!

First off, thanks for all of your support and interest in our club, you guys are the best fans in MLS (supported by a recent mlsnet.com league wide poll) and your loyalty and passion have been awesome thus far.......

This is my first time on these message boards and I have to say that I am very impressed. I am thrilled to see how much RSL is being discussed out in the community.......keep up the good work.

One of my co-workers brought a few intereting threads to my attention today, which explains the reason for my post. As you know, 1280 has hired me to do the RSL post game shows, as well as "Sports Saturday" with Scott Gerrard.

Like many in this community, I am still learning about the game of soccer. I know as die hard soccer fans you may be a bit sensitive about the sport's place in America and when you feel like the game isn't recieving it's proper due, you may tend to respond emotionally. I can certainly understand that. So allow me to apologize to those of you who feel that I am not studying up on the game, I can assure you that I am learning as I go, but it's a process that will take some time. I hope that you can all be a bit patient with me as I learn more about this great game.....I will try my best to represent it better as we move forward. As far as the parallels that I tend to draw to basketball, those types of sport to sport analogies happen all the time in sports talk radio and this is a market that is driven by hoops, so I try to help folks along who may not be very familiar with soccer just yet....plus my background is based in basketball, so I tend to draw on that knowledge as I go, sorry if that offends any of you.

I don't have time to respond directly to all of the comments and insults directed at me that I have read on these boards over the last 20 min.....but hopefully you can all show a little bit of class by keeping comments like "what do you expect from someone raised with a silver spoon in thier mouth" out of future discussions. Barbs like that are rather personal, especially coming from someone who has never even met me before. But I also know that there are many judgemental people out there, and in the end there is nothing I can do about that! So I guess if thats the way you choose to represent yourself, then that's your choice.

I welcome any and all feedback that you may have for me concerning our team and my post game show. I want to learn and improve and having folks like you who love the game so much around to help is a huge asset to me..... so fire away! Let's try and keep these discussions geared towards constructive feedback and specific questions, getting personal and insulting me or my "unemployed" friends really benefits nobody........I look forward to hearing from you.

I will try and check these boards often to see what I can learn from the great fans of RSL!!! Thanks for all you guys do, keep up the wonderful support of our young franchise as we all move forward together.

Thanks for Your Time,

Spencer Checketts

Welcome, Spencer!

I applaud you for braving the world of the forums, where people feel it their right to act much more rudely than they ever would face-to-face.

I am embarrassed about the judgmental comments people have made and I'm sorry that they ever came to your attention.

Good work on trying to learn and grow during this whole process. The front office is doing a remarkable job and all of us have been pleased, surprised, thrilled with their support. Tell your Dad that we adore him for bringing soccer to Utah! And good luck w/ all the stadium stuff.

I think it's great to have someone so involved with the team on the air! I know Scott, great guy, he is also learning the sport and the history of the game. I hope you both enjoy the journey. Now that you're a part of the forum feel free to ask any questions you like.

Spencer

Enjoy the post game show. Keep up the good work. If I could just have one request, to score a goal in the north end of the pitch.

Keep up the good work.

You know I always thought that Spencer walked a little funny out at the matches and know I know why...it's his Giant Balls.

That took guts coming in here and putting yourself out there like that. Kudos.

As the person that made the "silver spoons" comment that seemed to bug you the most since it was the only one you mentioned specifically, I just want to apologize. I meant it more tongue-in-cheek than it came out. But even that isn't an excuse. I take full responsibility for it. I'm sorry and hope you won't hold it against any of the other great people that post here for something I said.

Did I miss something? 😕 Must have.

I always love the post game show. And I don't think your parallels are out of place (sometimes confusing, since I DON'T follow basketball. I know that makes me weird).

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for posting. And thanks for the post game show. One suggestion, you could leak a little more insider info, couldn't you?😆 (the devil made me say that).
