👎 RSL vs NE

I have read some of your complaints about the ref calls etc. The fact is the team looked terrible. The first three goals by NE WERE SET PIECES. If you cannot defend them you deserve to loose. I have talked to Peter M. a number of times about getting DJ of the line. He did very well against Dallas, but went back to his old habits. 1st goal from within the goalie box. 2nd goal a double header from top of the goalie box. Both goals were the goalies balls if he had come off the line. I played either striker or keeper in my 21 years and I learned one thing very quickly. The keeper controls the keeper box, not the players. Being able to use my hands means that I have the advantage. Jay Nolly does a better job then DJ when it comes to box control. The Kreis goal was a well struck ball by Kreis a La Mathis. The third one was also a strange goal and team error (another set piece). The forth goal the question is what in the heck was that pass? Instead of getting the ball down field in the last couple of minutes in the game, I see an ill aimed pass to the other team, while the keeper is 30 yards out of the goal. At my old age it makes me want to go back to coaching. But then I would have to see this disaster from the sidelines and eat my heart out like Ellinger. DJ is a nice kid, but requires a lot of coaching before he is ready for the big leagues. We have now lost a number of games because of lack of box control. San Jose is a great example.

I enjoy some of your comments, but those of us that played in Europe and here when we emigrated, see thewholes very quickly and we can only hope That Peter and John see it and make the corrections. If they cannot be made the players need to be traded.

If there is no improvement against KC, you may kiss the playoffs good bye.

Many of us have played as well, Peter. Some on this forum are new to the game and are still learning, and others are very experienced. No one catches every nuance.

Your points are correct. DJ has had trouble at times with crosses--that we know. He also is spotty in decisions about coming off his line. He hesitated on the first goal and was burned for it. But remember that he is the superior shot blocker. The coaches will decide what's best for the team since they know these players better than any of us ever will.

And the problems extend to the basics of marking by defenders. We knew going in that the Revs score many goals off crosses, whether on corners, free kicks, or in the run of play. Marking runners in the penalty area requires coordination and discipline, and we broke down on both at the worst possible times. We also still don't clear the ball well--we tend to set up the opponent's next attack rather than starting one of our own.

We certainly were beaten by a better team, but the game wasn't out of hand until late. However, I make no excuses for the lads. They didn't hold up in end, and for the game to be effectively put away but an own goal simply cannot happen.

And for sure we need to pick up points, starting with Kansas City. We have shown the ability to rise to the occasion at home, and we will need to continue that if we are to keep pace with Colorado. Every game means something, and we can't assume that other teams will help by beating the Rapids for us. That said, I will add that as much as I want to make the playoffs I'm being patient with this club. It takes time to build a team, and from what I can see RSL is doing it the right way.

Yes, well stated. I'd like to add that even if we don't make the play-offs, we all had 32 games of excitement and entertainment that we didn't have before. 🙂

And for some of us we got many practices to keep us entertained over the summer. And for me, it got me involved in playing soccer as well, I never wanted to play and now I'm thinking of joining a team.

👍 RSL vs NE Revs

A well answered message after my comments. The team is young and so is DJ. He has very good response time to close up attacks, but he needs to learn to control the box. This is very crutial, if he wants to move ahead as an experienced keeper. Peter Mellor knows that and they are working on it. We just need to see it on the field. It needs to become automatic with him without having to think about it. Comments on the defense and the lack of clearing and coordinating a counter attack are vary valid and correct. The essential of being a good team is SOLID DEFENSE AND KEEPING. If you have that you can only tie or win. The midfielders need speed, ball skill and field vision in order to set up the forwards. As time goes on they may develop that and also get team cohesiveness. Congratulations to all of you who have gotten interested in the game and are starting to play!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Welcome to the beautiful game!!!
