Very depressing. I think the problem is that they give up too easily. If they once get behind, they start acting as if they've already lost, so why bother! That is not a healthy attitude for soccer players. The game is not over until the final whistle blows!π

My thought on the game is don't start Cila or Trembly. Also have Rusty play in a couple of the reserve games before he gets thrown back in. Then he can catch his stride again. Sigh. I am beginning to see what it is like to be a Cubs fan.

Well the game was a disappointment, but still, this was the Eastern leading Revs. They have only lost once at home all year.
RSL did lose it down the line, but it was fairly close and tight for a good portion of the match. The worse thing that came away from this was that our "elite" starting backline let so many mistakes fly by them. I realize that Cabrera and Scarlett are coming but if we can't expect Pope, Dunseth, Broome and Pierce to get the job done we are in trouble over the long run.

Its hard for are defense to get the job done with an own goal and DJ passing one to the other team in front of his net. π
I'm sorry DJ plays with a lot of heart but he doesn't get the job done sometimes either. Are outside halfs let their men run down the field so are fullbacks have to guard five men by themselves... wow i wonder if anyone will be open.

I also have to say DJ made some pretty good saves also, just frustrated that Dunseth got that own goal and DJ passed it to the other team for the fourth. Kries had a very nice shot in a positive note.

So I take it I'm glad that someone at my house is incapable of operating a VCR and that I didn't even to get to see a shred of the game?*

In breaking things down from this match, it appears to be much the same problem as always, poor marking by the defense and complete ball watching through the midfield.
That first and second goal were 100% Rusty Pierce, however. I hate to say it kids, but that ain't got anything to do with his hamstring!?! So, we should expect more of the same from him. Even if you exempt him from blame for the first goal because he had position on Dempsey and it appeared that Dempsey arrived over the top, the second goal was just straight shotty defensive work by Pierce. It doesn't help that Eddie Pope gets absolutely lost initially so that Dempsey beats him to the ball on the corner of the six, but Dempsey's header travels over towards a WIDE open Twellman. Where did Twellman come from? He crashed the goal having just been standing on Rusty at the inception of the kick (Rusty sat there and picked daisies - actually, his first step was towards the point where Dempsey received the ball and that step is what sprung Twellman). What's even more frustrating about all of this is that Rusty is the loudest mouth on team and frequently yells at his teammates. Yet his first response when getting burned on those goals is to look at the referee for a call or his teammates for allowing te initial header from Dempsey. The kid has to learn how to focus that negative energy on his own game and pick up the slack on his marking deficiency. The almost third goal in the 58th minute where Dorman mi**** the ball and Pope (I believe?) cleared it wide out of the six was clearly a matter of being caught on a counter attack from the Revs. HOWEVER, it is indicative of the same problem. While you can point fingers at the midfield for falling out of tactical shape, the fact remains that Dunseth just let the drifting midfielder making his run (Dorman) enter the box unmarked while he tried to step up and catch him on a trap. Meanwhile, Eddie Pope was behind him as the last man and was not making any effort to hold a line at all. Dorman was crashing the near post within 18 yards. That is not the time that you draw a trap! And Eddie Pope, bless him for all that he did for US Soccer - without his old speed and full strength he is a liability. He's not fast enough or strong enough right now to pick up the free man drifting through from the midfield. I'm not certain if this is the injury or just wear-and-tear, but he has looked really poor of late. And is certainly a part of the problem. He's consistently a step behind the opponent's attack and when he does win the ball he INSISTS on launching the ball over the top rather than linking with the midfield. I know he's a veteran, but he's gotta pick his game up to expectation in order to avoid having a finger on him as well.

I hate it when the other team mi****s the ball. Way too much mi****ting going on. I wish we could mi**** it like that.
Just saw the 2 NE first half goals. First one was excusable, I think. Second one was a disaster/nice work by NE. Definitely NOT a mi****.
