I would expect that those who have knowledge of the game find plenty to critique. If you know what's supposed to happen, then you're more aware of when it doesn't (i.e.: Nolly's position on Chung's goal).

Spectators can whine the whole game--no law against that. But the incessant negativity without any corresponding support for the team is bound to annoy the rest of us, especially if they haven't a clue what they're talking about. And my experience is that those who rag on the team the most rarely know what they're talking about.

That's a good deal different than occasionally noting when the lads are playing poorly. Of course, in my opinion, if the lads are playing poorly, that would be our cue to cheer them on even louder.

I might have to disagree mate; I don't have a problem with people whining about the team, they pay their money and are welcome in my book to view it as they see it. I have a friend who I used to go to Anfield with every other week, and in the other week we went to Old Trafford; I am a Liverpool fan and he's a United fan. I went to games with him for over a decade, he was probably one of the smartest footballing minds I have ever had the pleasure to watch a game with. He was close friends with dozens of managers who often stopped to talk to him, I never saw him approach any player or coach (manager) but they all went to him. He has forgotten more about soccer than I will ever know about it and yet talk abot whining oh my gosh! He used to crack me up! He whined about every little thing that happended, all the time. People paid good money to sit near him, probably still do.

Now since I have no idea who the people are, I have no idea what they are saying, but there are some that would rather people didn't sing at games, or that some would sit down so hey can see from the seats they paid for, I guess all I'm saying is that it's all open to interpretation from different sides.

Oh, and by the way, glad you noticed Nolly was the culprit for the goal, woefully out of position for that goal, shameful.

I'd have a hard time calling this type of person a "fan". It seems to me that being a fan should be enjoyable, not a huge greasy ball of negativity - unless, of course, that's enjoyable to you. :P

Rover hit the nail on the head. I was more frustrated with people that just moan the entire game about one particular player and never seem to cheer when something good happens. It's fine to express your dissatisfaction with what's happening on the pitch. It's just a little disheartening to hear someone rip on Jaime Watson for 90 minutes for being immature or rip on Tiger's dreadlocks for 2 halves. I think you get the point. I think that energy is better used on putting down the opposition if you ask me.

I don't mind whining so much when it is educated whining. That sounds kind of like what your friend was doing. I haven't heard much negativity around me, but the stuff I have heard just seemed to be frustrated fans whining w/out really being very informed. That is what starts to get to me. I have no problems with fans getting on the team when they are playing poorly and getting after players that aren't living up to expectations, but just whining about whoever last touched the ball b/c we are losing starts to get to me.

Don't see the disagreement. An educated fan who gripes about missed assignments or sloppy play isn't the same as the guy who just wants to whine. And since there's no law to support either, if they buy their ticket they can enjoy the game however they see fit.

And if all griping was outlawed, they'd never let me in the stadium--just ask my kids. Too much playing and coaching in my background to sit still when I see sloppy tactics and--worst of all--lazy play.

So I think we're talking about two different things, but regardless, I think the discussion is good.

As for Chung's goal, Nolly was caught out. Chung also made Broome take a couple of fakes, and then threaded the ball in perfectly. Great goal, wrong team.

Okay, I almost forgot about this, but I do want to gripe about this. I almost took a picture of this fan that did this too, but I didn't want to appear too conspicuous. Anyway, this guy in Section 36 row 3 was reading a Fedora Linux text book instead of watching the game. I was thinking to myself, "Why would someone spend good money on a soccer game just so they could read their Fedora Linux manual?" Now that I think qualifies for most apathetic fan ever. I'll take 100 Mathis haters over 1 guy reading a Linux manual during a game.

Ok, so to get into somewhat specifics: I don't have a problem with "What was Williams thinking with that pass?" Or, "He should've crossed it, Kreis was wide open!" Not a problem. But yelling over and over again "Dunseth is a homo!" For 90 min is ridiculous. I'm not offended by much, but it gets to be annoying. My fix was, everytime they shouted something negative, I would shout out (louder too, I've got a nice set of lungs) The opposite positive.
EX: fan: "Trade DJ!" me: "I love DJ!!"
fan: "Dunseth is a homo!" me: "Dunseth dates your mom!!"

We'll see how it works as the games continue!

That's sad that people would say stuff like that. But I love your comebacks, lol 🙂

Point taken mate, I concur.
