❗ The 2005 Superdraft rules and information.

Here is the announcement:

http://real.saltlake.mlsnet.com/MLS/news/team_news.jsp?ymd=20050107&content_id=20690&vkey=news_slr&fext=.jsp&team=slr

The question is, is this an event, like the Expansion Draft that we can attend? And, if so, who's comming? Me for one, anyone else? Especially, any southerners?

If I am not mistaken the draft is going to be held in Baltimore.
I think they will all be in Baltimore and just streamed over the net!

I will go if it is local and open to the public... but don't know for sure!

The 2005 MLS SuperDraft will be held in Baltimore on Jan.14, however it will presented live on Fox Sports World at noon, Eastern Time (10am for you Utahns).

I bet RSL will love to help the Loyalists get a group together to watch it. SkyBox?
Dysko and Loyal1?

I emailed RSL and there is no definite news about Friday but I was told that they will send out an email to all on their list as soon as something definite is decided or planned.

From the Front Office

ReAL Salt Lake is on the clock

Pastorino, Ellinger Prepare for #1 Overall Pick at the MLS SuperDraft;

Fans, Media Invited to SkyBox Watch Party at Gateway Friday at 10:00 a.m.;
RSL’s #1 Pick to Appear at Zions Bank Grand Opening Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

SALT LAKE CITY (Monday, January 10, 2005) – Real Salt Lake, Major League Soccer’s 12th team, invites media, fans and season-ticket holders to attend the organization’s MLS SuperDraft Party this Friday, January 14 at the SkyBox Sports Grille & Arena at the Gateway. Real Salt Lake General Manager Steve Pastorino and Head Coach John Ellinger will be in Baltimore, Maryland to select the No. 1 overall pick in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft. RSL also currently holds rights to overall picks #13 and #37, after dealing the overall #25 pick to Chicago on December 30 as part of the deal that brought forward Dipsy Selolwane and midfielder Evan Whitfield to Salt Lake.

Major League Soccer’s 2005 SuperDraft will be carried LIVE on Fox Sports World at 10 a.m. MT and is expected to last between 60-90 minutes. At the event, RSL fans will have the opportunity to witness the MLS SuperDraft including Real Salt Lake No. 1 pick and interact with Real Salt Lake management. MLS broadcast partner Fox Sports World will carry the first hour of the draft live, with MLS Wrap co-host Sean Wheelock leading coverage on-site in Baltimore along with longtime international and MLS television analyst Allen Hopkins.

On Saturday, Real Salt Lake will introduce the #1 pick locally at 11:30 a.m. MT. Real Salt Lake players and executives will be available at the grand opening of Zions Bank’ newest “Su Banco Hispanic Branch” located at 1635 S. Redwood Road in West Valley City. At the event, fans will have the opportunity to meet the No.1 pick as well as RSL goalkeeper D.J. Countess. There will also be an opportunity to purchase Real Salt Lake merchandise and ticket packages for the 2005 RSL season, which kicks off Saturday, April 2 in New York against the MetroStars.

Last year's MLS SuperDraft featured No. 1 selection Freddy Adu (D.C. United), Crew starting defender Chad Marshall (No. 2), 2004 Gatorade Rookie of the Year and New England Revolution midfielder Clint Dempsey (No. 8) and Jeff Parke, the last selection in the SuperDraft (No. 60) who proceeded to start 27 games with the MetroStars, bashing any “Mr. Irrelevant” claims.

Preparations continue for the inaugural season of Real Salt Lake, kicking off in April, 2005. More information on the club can be found on the team’s official website at www.RealSaltLake.com or by calling 1-866-9-SOCCER.

The fact that there is already a set up time and place to meet our #1 pick tells me two things:

1. RSL already know who they are going to pick
2. That player already knows he is going to RSL.

If those two were not true, they could not already have the meet the player set up. The rumor (I think Neil said it first) is this Besagno (sp?) kid. But at that age is he ready to move away from home? Freddy wasn't. Maybe he will be.

Also, it's at a hispanic bank... maybe that's a hint as to who the player will be?

Or it could just be that the hispanic media has been very accomodating to RSL and RSL wants to recognize this. Notice that DJ Countess is going to be there too, even though there are more hispanic or spanish speaking members of RSL that could come.
Besides, I don't think Danny O'Rourke is hispanic anyways. 🙂

Biggest news here is that ALL RSL FANS SHOULD PLAN ON BEING AT THE SKYBOX ON FRIDAY AND AT THE BANK ON SATURDAY!!!!

GO RSL!

😎

So, southerners PM me if you are planning to go up and we'll arrange car pooling. No sense all of us going up separately, when we can go together.😎

Hey Czar I guess I forgot to mention that Steve Pastorino said at the news conference that they already know who they are picking in the first round. I re-read my post about the news conference and it was not there... sorry! I knew i should have taken notes!

I was thinking as well, that the draft pick would most likely be spanish because of the 'meet the player' thing, but now after reading prime's post I am not so sure!
