Thanks Clarette I am actually using trax to get there ... it is just getting out to West Jordan afterwards. The convenient bus (90) stops running at 6:50... and the other option is to take a late bus that runs out near Magna and I would not get home til well after 10:00... I will do that if necessary I was just hoping someone was going my way then it would be much easier... Thanks

"Murray and Salt Lake are battling over where a stadium should go when there is a war in Iraq. I wonder if Murray and Salt Lake have their priorities mixed up."
The above was a quote (from the article) from a concerned citizen that doesn't have a clue. 🙄

I was at the meeting and I heard the guy mentioned below give his speech, he was the second speaker. (He made the quoted comment below and also mentioned the tsunami victims) When he made the statements there was some uneasy stirring and a bearly audible groan from the audience. Well at least from the people around me!
[soapbox] My answer to his statement is this; I support the troops in Iraq. I do not agree with the reasons our leaders have taken us to war with Iraq, (it is my right as a citizen to disagree with the current leadership, BUT that is another thread, on some other board.) Life must move forward regardless of the war in Iraq or the tsunami. We will pay adequate and proper respect to those fighting in Iraq and those lost in the tsunami when it is appropriate. To use the war or the tsunami, as an excuse to stop living our daily lives would be absolute lunacy! It would be an insult to the memories that people carry and to the victims of both of these tragedies to completely stop living ourselves! [/soapbox] The space for the stadium although touted as 100 acres is a far cry from that... (approximately 1/5 of that) the site that is being considered for development will include the stadium, two giant stores (Lowes and Target) and all the parking that those three giants will require plus a huge housing development! Overall I got the impression that Murray wants the stadium. I would say that it was an even mix of support and opposition. Last edited by Deuce : 01-19-2005 at 08:41 AM.

Glad you got to go and report Deuce. Was there anything said or heard at the meeting that would want you to have the stadium in Murray over SLC?
Or are you still in the SLC corner?

I still want it downtown but the drawings and maps at the meeting did make me, just for a split second.... consider Murray, just for that split second tho. I feel better now that I have given Murray consideration and I can see other people's point of view. well mostly! Seriously tho the site is irellevent now... just get er' done! Real Salt Lake spokesman, something Howes, threw out alot of numbers in the tens of millions and it all sounded good to me. I think it was 93 million in revenue and 29 million in taxes. 20 or so RSL games, plus 15-20 concerts, High school soccer and football.

😲 Not football. The point is to NOT have pointy ball lines on the field!😲

One thing I noticed in the SL Trib article is that the site proposed in Murray is 10 acres. that makes it the same size as the proposed downtown site.
I did not see any 'practice fields' on the Murray proposal and can only guess that they are planned... but not in the initial phase! 10 acres for a stadium and practice fields on either site might be stretching (or compressing) things a bit!

The seasons would overlap a bit but the paint that they use on the grass is not nearly as permanent as the turf stuff at RES. If a HS football game was to take place on a friday before a RSL road game, it would give the grass a full week or more to grow before the next home game which would probably be enough time to cut the painted grass. I'm with you though. The whole idea of a SSS is to keep it for that. Any other events should be able to use the stadium with little to no modification. Otherwise they should go somewhere else. Who knows though. Perhaps they're just saying what people want to hear to get the deal signed. :D
