If Sandy gets it, I suggest they change the name of the city to Madrid or something footballish sounding like Nottingham, Liverpool, or Santos.

Kristen sad as well. ๐ I'm not going to complain though. It's great that in the not too distant future RSL will have its own stadium.

This is wonderful news!!!
Someone needs to call me with what happens tomorrow! And just remember that not only does RSL have great fan support (#2 in MLS) and sponsorship (#3) but it will now have a SSS. This guarantees that RSL will be around for a long time (unlike say NASL was). Oh and Sandy is in Salt Lake County, so the name still makes sense, unlike say the Carson Galaxy or FC Frisco.

There does seem to be a significant number of RSL fans who are either opposed to or not excited by a Sandy Stadium, with arguments already well established. Many of the rest of us would have taken either site, so I'm ecstatic about the upcoming announcement.
My guess is that once the plan is presented and the initial reaction to the choice fades, just about everyone will get on board with the decision. Hopefully, it will be like the choice of the team's name, which did not grab universal approval but now is established. I think what fans in Utah will find is that although downtown has many positives, there were also challenges there that go beyond politics and cost. The main one I saw was limited space, which would have restricted not just parking but also the amount of development that could have done to complement the stadium. Considering the upside of a prime downtown location I still think we could have made it work, but it would by no means have been easy. Sandy gives us more space and the potential for a much more integrated development. I'm looking forward to seeing what SCP and Sandy City come up with, since they clearly are looking at this as a centerpiece project. True, it's not downtown, but as has been mentioned it's not Frisco or Commerce City either. I hope those who are disappointed can look for the positives and recognize that RSL has made a decision in the best interest of the club. __________________ Easy to be hard; hard to be smart. --Old Gunny Last edited by Rover : 10-11-2005 at 07:47 AM.
