Actually, that rumor was false.

Very false.

Though I'm sure Mayor Dolan still loves that it's around.

Read about it here.

In fact, the more I think about it, the more Sandy makes sense over a downtown location. It seems that the only real things downtown had going for it was the ambiance of being downtown, and the accessibility of nightlife. The ambiance would have been nice, but is it really THAT much more important than all of the above factors? Accessibility of night life may only end up catering to less than half of the fan-base. Whereas a Sandy location with it's options would end up catering to more than half of you fan-base (soccer moms and dads and their kids). At least from my perspective. Parking downtown may have ended up being a nightmare.

No matter how you slice it...this decision was purely political. You can make the "best" out of it all you want. Rationalize yourself until you're blue in the face. But this location was not chosen because it was the best location. Period. That is why I'm pissed off. I guess I'm pissed off about the whole political environment I live in right now and the stadium is just giving me another way to vent.

I have to stay out of this......I apologize to all of you for even posting this.

EDIT: As I was reading all the posts regarding possible stadium designs...thought I throw this in here.....this is from the DesNews article:

"Dolan also wanted the stadium for other events โ€” lacrosse, rugby, games from other soccer leagues and junior league tournaments. The stadium "wasn't just about soccer," he said. It was "not just a stadium and the soccer team, (but also) all these other things."

He's not making a comparison, he's only stating the obvious about our stadium.

We don't live in any of those other places. So they don't really matter.

True, but that is a fact of life with American stadiums. It seems that they only get built downtown when there is a major redevelopment project that needs to get done.

That's a good point, and unfortunately it's one that applies perfectly to Salt Lake City.

Which is in drastic need of major downtown redevelopment. The Church is doing its part.

I wish others would.

Is it so bad to look for the good in things and walk away a happy man instead of a depressed one? It's all about attitude. At the end of the day, I'm happy and you're not. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Granted, it probably would have been more difficult to have a positive attitude about a stadium being built in Tooele. But I'd have found a way. Perhaps I could have moved out there to where the property values are much lower and the lifestyle much slower. ๐Ÿ™‚

I think we are all just pointing at the obvious debate of "How MLS builds stadiums".
The team mentions where they want it, see where they can get the best deal AND (not OR) best for the team.
I guess Checketts decided the best sense, for his money and the team was in Sandy.

SLC is not the first MLS team to "suffer" from this. Best to just do what you can and enjoy what you have. Many people, teams, cities, states, nations are envious of what you have.

Is this true?
Well they don't call it BS for nothing!

The Press Conference is tomorrow, Wednesday at 3pm in the South Towne Expo Center in Sandy. That is about 9400 South State.
