You're right. The majority of taxpayers aren't going to have a favorable opinion of the situation - at least right now. Ask Karl Rove how to sway public opinion in the face of negative PR. For good or bad, the public can be, and is, swayed by effective PR, and RSL and its fans can either play that game or get the worst of it by not playing the game.

Your view that the general citizen is above being manipulated by media and can see through the mists and fogs of PR (good and bad) is praiseworthy, but unfortunately naive. We are ALL caught up at times by crafty marketing and soothsayers. Sometimes a few of us can read the fine print, but a majority? Highly unlikely, and more than likely never possible. Perhaps I'm just pessimistic (not a frequent occurrence) on my view of the teeming masses, but more than likely I just enjoy debating. πŸ˜‰

Possibly... but that's one of the great things about being up here in the ivory tower.

For those who complain that Sandy is far from the city the team is named after, take a look at other comparable situations:

Frisco to Dallas = 26.5 miles
Glassboro to Philadelphia = 23.4 miles
Carson to Los Angeles = 17.9 miles
Sandy to Salt Lake City = 17.0 miles

Meaning Davis County? Can you get to RES from Bountiful more quickly than you can get to Sandy from Bountiful? I think maybe it's a 2 minute difference, at most.

2 minutes for the extra 15 miles? It's not like the stadium in Sandy is right next the on / off ramps either.

You're obviously not from up north. If you get off Beck St., you can be at RES in 5 min. It takes more than 2 min to travel the extra 17 miles south and it takes me about 5 min. to get to the stadium site from the freeway in Sandy. πŸ™„ You would be *****ing too if you had to drive to Layton for every game....admit it. Like I said, I'll be there but I'm not going to jump up and down saying "OMG....I LOVE DRIVING FARTHER". I'm happy to have a stadium anywhere. The drive to Sandy still sucks.

That trip to RES from Herriman and back is a *****. I'm sorry, I would have loved a down town stadium, but I drive that 25 mile drive (to downtown) every day as is.

I'm happy where it's going and wouldn't have complained a bit if it stayed downtown.

Holy... something that is holy! how many times has this discussion happened?
It is still exactly the same...

Where is Section 37? Have not seen him in a while!

The stadium is for our soccer team... I would go every week if it were in Southern Idaho, Wendover or Evanston... I would even venture to Utah County...

I am just happy we have an MLS team and we are getting a stadium...

Oh Well! Here we go again...
