Heck, we'll take Adu!

Come on guys!! Bringing Adu here would extend the honeymoon period Salt Lake (greater metro area, not "city") has with RSL - which is exactly what we need next season. Season 3 will bring the completion of the stadium - which extends it even one more year. Pulling someone like Freddy in for season 2 would be a marketer's dream connecting the inaugural season with the stadium season. After 3 honeymoon seasons, we should easily have a stable fan-base that can maintain the success of the club far into the future. At this point, I would say - who cares if he's inconsistent, and who cares if he wants to fly off to Europe after one more season here. He would do the following in just one season:

1) Bring in some more fans, and make more stable the ones we've got.
2) Allow Ellinger to continue to build the rest of team as far as team work and fitness.
3) Give RSL the opportunity at a season 2 playoff spot.
4) Bridge the gap between the inaugural season and the stadium season as far as the RSL/Fan love affair is concerned.
5) Maintain the focus of the press that we've been so blessed to have during our inaugural season.

There's got to be a few more, but I just can't think of them right now.

I'm with Aerick on this one. If we got Adu and the rest of the season played out even marginally better than this one, it would link the inaugural season to the season with the new stadium, and that would draw more fans, even if they are just casual fans. More butts in the seats means RSL for years to come, and I'm all for that.

I don't agree with his attitude, but who are we to talk, none of us have ever been in this situation.

Freddy is yet another reason of why teenagers don't belong in professional sports. Of course until we have youth systems for every club, it is the only alternative for real talents.

I don't like his whining either. But those points about keeping the fans coming till we can get a winning team seem pretty valid. It would keep the excitement around. I wonder about his salary and if it, in combination with Cleetus', would make it difficult to build a competetive team. It seems like it would be impossible. But the idea of looking for something to keep the people coming until the stadium is a good one.

Ah yes, the glory days of the Adu/Watson tandem. If only we could revive the team that ended up 5th in the World in 2003. Can we also add Gaven?

Come on, now. We both know that only a small portion of that counts toward the salary cap, however it's all worked out. Yes, somebody would be taking a pay cut, but frankly, the entire team is going to be restructured over the winter one way or another. I'm guessing that some of the current players are going to be getting pay raises anyhow (I would bet on Williams, Watson, Cila at least....?) There are always strings to be pulled with the salary considerations from what others have said.

I agree with Aerick's philosophy. This team is about making money. Freddy would bring money in and would likely even get us some national attention from casual fans who haven't heard of us. It would make RSL more of a "destination" attraction for people who otherwise skip SLC altogether.

Whatever. I don't know what I'm talking about here, just guessing. And no, you may not quote me on that.

I'd rather have Kasey Keller. :'(

Perhaps if we cut Cleetus (and I still like Cleetus, and think he will/would do better next year), we could afford all three. 🙂

I'm sure Watson gets a raise for next season. And do we know how much Gaven makes? If we could get Gaven and Watson for half of Cleetus' salary, that would work, right?
