Let me see if i understand the relationship between SJose and the Sexers...Sixers...whatever...

San Jose keeps their name, logo and the stars above their shield, right?

Ya, sometimes we forget about these things when we toss around terms like latinos. I can see where it could tick off some Mexicans I can see where it could be a little annoying but I'm not sure how it's being insensative. But they may just be a bit confused in trying to figure out why a military boo-boo and example of insubordination and tactical ineptitude known as the Alamo is so celebrated and revered. That and if they were insulted by the 1836 part, god knows what words they would use to describe naming the city after Sam Houston.

As for the name, I thought it was better than some of the ones they could've went with. In a world full of Hornets, Lions, Bengels, Tigers, Jaguars, Diamondbacks, Thunder, Lightening, Jets, Giants and such it's nice to have some teams with names that aren't about some wild "vicious" animal or stuff like that. I mean, would you rather have FC Houston or Houston 1836? Houston Wildcats or Houston 1836? At least there is some meaning to the name.

Like sands in the hour glass...

According to at least one source, Cup is correct, at least the Houston is already dropping 1836 in favor of something else.

While I understand pressue from certain groups and sponsors could favor this, it can't be good to keep changing the name.

This is the scoop flying around here yesterday and today. Apparently one of our council members got involved, yada yada yada. It seems folks are agreeing with what's being reported and the name will be Lone Star. This is just great, another knew name, no kits yet, what a way to start the season. I new I wasn't going to be a fan of this organization.

OH the Drama!
FFS... did they do any market research?

I suppose Houston "Republic FC" would be out too... because that would be too close to republican and that would remind all democrats of the election in 2000!
Then they would boycott the games because... yada...yada...yada...
FFS this is just stupid!
