Hugo Sanchez is familiar with MLS and the USA would be very motivated to beat Lavolpe........

Klinsman already lives in California. We might as well make things easy for him.

USSF Pres. Gulati comments on hiring a new USMNT coach
http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=444041

Gulati has hinted he would be reluctant to name a foreigner as a coach, due in part to the uniqueness of the American program. Arena's familiarity with MLS - he coached the D.C. United before becoming national team coach - allowed him to adapt quickly.

"It's pretty important to have someone who understands the American set-up very, very well," Gulati said. "We've got this unique structure of the league, we've got this NCAA issue, we've got a different seasonal year (for MLS), that's a lot to learn in a short period of time."

With that comment in mind there is only one choice: Peter Wilt.

Well they better hurry and get a foreign coach in there so they have the maximum time to adapt!

They make it sound like we have the most unique system in the world of soccer... which makes me wonder if that is not the problem...

Why are we making things so difficult that we can't have the best coaches in the world work for us...?

Maybe the system needs to abolished (and a system more like the European system established) so that we can field a competitive team in 2010...

Before anyone lambastes me for my comments... replacing a coach in an admittedly flawed system does not solve the problem... it only makes the coach look inept!

Should US Soccer not be addressing the real issues?

I don't buy this argument. Any manager worth his weight can deal with the supposed "uniqueness" of the American system. At the end of the day, soccer is soccer where ever you play it...

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/06/30/AR2006063000642.html

Arena has been linked to the New York Red Bulls, an MLS club under new ownership that fired coach Mo Johnston this week and is looking to make a big splash with its replacement. Richie Williams, who played for Arena at the University of Virginia and D.C. United, was named interim coach.

Asked Friday if he had been contacted by the Red Bulls, Arena said he had no comment.

Doesn't that mean he has? 😉

It appears Capello got Eriksson's job at Real Madrid so maybe Eriksson might be available for team USA
I know it is a longshot but why not?

Although Klinsmann lives in Los Angeles he will likely be off to some european side if he does not stay on as Germany's coach
