Utah County investors would buy RSL

Utah County investors would buy RSL if Dave wants to sell.

Definitely. I still get a kick out of how often the media talks about the team as though Checketts owns it. Like it's all up to him. He may head up Sports Capital Partners but he's not the sole investor. And what Checketts wants to do himself versus what Checketts feels his obligated to do for Sports Capital Partners can be 2 different things.

How is the old Geneva Steel site any better than Fair Park or Sandy? I would think you'd eleminate from the mix quite a few season ticket holders, especially in Davis County. I don't understand why the developers of the project would be interested in buying the team. The land may be free but that's a small part fo the equation. Where do they get the money for the infrastructure that would be needed? Where do they come up with the money to buy RSL itself? Would the MLS approve of such a sale? Where do they come up with the $40m - $60m or so that would be needed to build the stadium itself? Would the city of Vineyard approve construction?

It's great to see there are options there. But I when I see the developer that's yappin' his trap is based out of Sandy, I wonder who he knows and why he's really saying what he is.

I have a friend who works at Anderson Development and he told me that they have been planning a huge development in Vineyard (kinda like the Sandy plan) but they've been looking for what they call an "anchor tenant." They believe they have that in RSL.

For the record, even Checkett's Sports Capital Partners group only owns 49% of the team. The League owns the other 51%.

I would never doubt that a developer would be looking into bringing in a big tennant or 3, especially for something the size of what they're doing. And something that size can defnitely accomidate a stadium. But, and I'm not trying to be rude, I didn't question any of that. I just don't see why they'd buy the team, come up with money for the infrastructre, let alone money for the stadium. That all adds up fast. And they either have the cash to do it or will have to put together some sort of financing. And that in itself then adds to the cost. And I dont' want to imply it can't be done. I just think there are a lot of questions about the whole deal that would need to have some light shed upon them before I'd start to consider it a possibility.

I know the focus on the majority here, but I'm tired of everyone north of SLC being ignored. You hit it here. If they build the stadium in UC, good for them, but I've gotta believe they realize they'll loose a sizeable portion of season ticket holders in those that live north (DAVIS, Weber, Box Elder, Cache).

Just too far to drive that often. The games would become a special event only kind of game, rather then what it is now.

Should the team stay in Utah at a different location significantly further away from where they are now. It will admittedly make it tougher on significant numbers of the fan base. (Will also be easier for others too.) If you even add 15-30 minutes in each direction in travel time and multiply it by 20 or so games a year, that is a lot of time and gasoline.

Might be interesting if maybe something in southern Davis County get proposed. It would put SL County gov in their place if that happened. Put it right close to the freeway (either I-15 or I-215) and time from Utah County compared to making it up to RES wouldn't really be that much different.
