Send Atiba Back to Hospital: Atiba's Real Madrid Red Card Wow. I never thought I would dislike one of our players so much. Of course, Sequeira is right there with him...
We REALLY need a viable option up top besides Jeffy. Where's Hashimoto, Watson, or Worthen? I wasn't at the DC United game, but I understand that Worthen had a pretty good game. All that Atiba seems to be able to do is get himself into trouble. The kid needs to stay on his feet more. That tackle was horrible. Red card horrible? No, not necessarily, but I bet the referee had been briefed on Atiba's past and his not-so-good tackling habits. You think Real Madrid's staff was real happy with Ellinger when he brought Atiba on? Even I was pissed. My dad, who watched the RSL-RM game on TV said that Ellinger was visibly upset with Atiba when he got sent off. I hope that this game puts him in the doghouse and gets his transfer papers in order. That being said, congrats to our starting 11 and the first 45 minutes of play. I was really impressed. I think the Crew have a lot to fear. My favorite part of the game was when Beckham took a shot right at Jay Nolly. I yelled out that he needed to let Robinho take the next shot because Robinho was better than him. This teenage kid down in front of me (decked out in his Beckham jersey, of course) just kind of looked back at me with this disgusted look on his face. I don't think he knows who Robinho is. 😉

Agreed, Harris totally killed that game and any chance RSL had of even scoring a goal... really a stupid and completely unnecessary foul.
I support keeping him off the field. __________________

I wish red cards in friendlies carried over to league play.

The problem is, while RSL has a logjam at forward, Ellinger wants to play through a target forward and we've only got one of those (Harris) on the roster. Kreis, Cunningham, Watson, and Hashimoto unfortunately all play the same position (small forward). We either need to (a) change our scheme to eliminate the need for a target forward, or (b) bring in a decent target forward. There's no way Houston can continue to pay DeRo, Mullan, and Ching and not be over the cap, right? How about Harris, Watson, and Kreis to Houston for Ching?

Maybe Atiba knows he's on his way out if we sign Jafet Soto?
We should sign Ching. Pretty soon, we'll have more Hawaiians than BYU or U of U football.

I am glad this thread is here because I feel a serious need to vent about Atiba. Man was that frustrating. I have been listening to the audio from the game (thanks for the link to the audio archive Merk!!! I am loving it!!!). RSL really held its own with Madrid. Listening to the audio again I am surprised at how level the play had been. Hatch said that Madrid had out shot RSL 9-7 in the first half and I saw elsewhere that the final stats were 25-9. I don't know what would have happened in the second half without that red card but I agree with earlier posters who said that the red card killed the game. Granted I felt like the card was harsh. He seemed to get ball first and then the man, but I have to admit that I was upset with Atiba for an earlier challenge that he didn't get a card for. He is so reckless. It is frustrating. I am really upset with him for the way his sending off greatly detracted from the game. If he can't learn to reign in his recklessness he has got to go.
One side note. I have to agree with Williams that the officials seemed to be a little easy on Madrid. Beckham made some sloppy challenges including a two footer that didn't even draw a yellow. I was really, really upset that they didn't call that both ways.

Seriously, after every match there's numerous threads about bad reffing.
everyone from the organization to the fans needs to accept this and over come. __________________

and FWIW: if we're putting this in terms we all can understand...
Shaq O'Neal will always get the call before a Greg Ostertag. Real Madrid got the calls, who cares. Look at the foul count and ask how one sided it was. __________________

I care that is why I posted about it. I don't like it when stars get preferential treatment in the NBA and I really didn't like it when Real Madrid got it from some of the fans and from the ref on Saturday. I do agree with you though that in general and especially in the MLS, we can't focus on the refs as much.
