Did you forget about the Goal in Colorado?
So he has scored as many as Sequeira and Talley in the "majors" and scored a few more in the "minors"... I'm just sayin' 😉

SP... Yes brown will probably be on the unprotected expansion draft list... likely along with Sequeira, Watson, and all the rest that are not regular starters...
IIRC they can only protect 14 players... that is the starting 11 and 3 subs...
The rest are unprotected...

also IIRC Canada's national team ahem Toronto... can only take 3 from any team... plus if a player is chosen, for instance, from RSL, the team can then protect one additional player for each pick up to a total of 3 additional players... because three is the most that can be chosen from any one team...

There is an added complication to this expansion as well... Since TFC can only have four senior internationals and I believe 4 junior internationals then they are extremely restricted in the amount of players they can pick up from any MLS team... you can bet they are not going to waste a coveted SI slot on a reserve player.

Nolly and Nick Besagno would be two of those protected subs. I'm not sure who the third would be?

I am not sure how the Generation Adidas players will be effected by the draft.
Are they automatically protected... if So Besagno, Watson and Jimenez will be protected... Whoever else is Generation Adidas...
That is a question I will pose to Steve Pastorino or Coach E next time I see them...

FYI, Akwari, Trembly, and Ballouchy are also Project 40/G:A players. Does anyone know how long G:A contracts last? I'm sure Akwari and Trembly's have both expired. And while Ballouchy's is still in effect, if we didn't have to protect him it would free up someone else we could protect.

I think Brown is more valuable to us on the roster as is, then he is off in any capacity (trade/cut). If we cut him and open a roster spot, we would have a difficult time replacing him, at the same cost, with someone just as capable - if not more so.

Why, I've seen a few guys hanging around Pioneer Park who might be cheaper and just as effective.

These guys are not developmental players (neither is Ballouchy).

GA contracts are for 2 yrs with an option for the 3rd yr.

I hear that Kreis feels very much like NOT retiring.
I don't know if anyone would notice if Broome retired.
My feelings on Pope change week to week.

from our expansion picks:

Brown
Akwari
Williams

others lasted a year or less and even a few didn't ever see SLC.

We didn't build too much through the expansion draft.
If the same schedule is used as '04 then RSL will have to submit their protected list just after MLS Cup.

MLS teams have a minimum of 6 roster moves each off season for one reason or another. I imagine RSL making some moves. I think the brass are pretty happy with most of the young players.

Has Soto done enough so far to win a contract?

Let's get K. Cooper!

Goalkeepers (1):
Scott Garlick - only expendible if we can find better for the same price...
Jay Nolly - showed he is at least another year away...
Chase Harrison - no idea
Outside defenders (2):
Willis Forko - young, cheap, improving, keep him
Kevin Novak - ditto
Paul Broome - Ben Olsen type injury. However, unlike Ben, probably doesn't have the skill set to offset losing his much better than average speed. Probably gone.
Chris Brown - for the love of all that is sacred, never list him in this position again. He is a servicable fill-in for mid and up front, and he is relatively cheap. He may get to stay.
Central defenders (2):
Eddie Pope - either 1 more year (ok) or he retires (ok)
Danny Torres - revelation
Jack Stewart - young with up-side
Nelson Akwari - will never be the starter (too slow) but a solid #3 CD
Nik Besagno - still Gen A, still cheap, still young, maybe one day he will get there. Shows how little E knew about the league when he made that pick.
Cameron Knowles - Cheap but no Gen A, using up one of the youth international slots...may get traded for value as we are deep here.
Holding midfielders (1):
Carey Talley - now if we could only turn back the clock, hopefully holds up for another year.
Douglas Sequiera - already gone...can't waste a SI slot.
Kenny Cutler - errr, welll, he's cheap. Scary part, DS isn't much better than Porn-stash.
Outside midfielders (2):
Chris Klein - started to find his game, hopefully the legs last another year.
Andy Williams - coaches hate to coach him because he doesn't really play a position and is inconsistent defensively...oh, and he spends the first half of the season playing himself into a shape other than a pear. However, the opposing team's coaches hate him because he doesn't play a position and throws their defensive alignment completely out of wack. He's one of the reasons that other teams' fans enjoy watching RSL...you never know what he will do.
Jafet Soto - who knows.
Joey Worthen - too soon to tell.
Seth Trembly - How many ACLs for a player with limited skill and not much speed to begin with? Sorry Seth.
Christian Jimenez - who?
Attacking midfielders (1):
Mehdi Ballouchy - Duh...
Small forwards (1):
Jeff Cunningham - Duh
Jason Kreis - very interesting discussion on this on BigSoccer. My take, he still gives you quite a bit, but E needs to play him much less.
Jamie Watson -cheap, too small and weak on the ball...loved his attitude...enjoy Dallas.
Duke Hashimoto - too soon to tell
Brian Gil - who?
Target forwards (1):
Atiba Harris - athletic specimen...million dollar body, 10 cent head. Lets hope that Kreis and Coach E can Crash Davis him into a great player.
Adam Acosta - perennial reserve player

Frankly, I don't see RSL making a ton of changes unless they tank the last 4 games. Since the disasterous start, RSL has been one of the strongest in the league.
