Man, I hope Willis gets a raise! He deserves way more based on how well he has played!

In relation to the Toronto FC expansion draft:

According to Soccer America, teams can only protect 12 players INCLUDING devs and MUST protect 3 of the team's SIs. So on a 28 man roster, RSL has 16 players that have a potential of being picked by Toronto.

RSL could have certainly used rules like that when forming their team. They really got a raw deal (along with Chivas) when they had their expansion draft. I guess MLS didn't want another expansion team winning the Cup again. But after seeing how awful the expansion teams were last year, they realized that they had gone too far in the other direction. Hopefully, they can eventually come to a happy medium.

One thing I do wonder about though. What if a team only has 3 SI's, do they protect all three or do they have to leave one exposed?

I'm pretty sure I know which SI from RSL won't be protected.

Actually, RSL only has 3 SIs. Sequira, Soto and Torres.

Am I missing anyone?

Thus Toronto will probably have to get Sequira a different way. 😉

That's why I asked the question about only have 3 instead of 4.

But even if we can protect all three of them, I have a feeling based on recent rumblings that Sequiera will be left unprotected anyway. And if the rumor is true about Soto not coming back, he may be another one that's left unprotected. (Or do we have to protect all of them but one?) I'm pretty sure that Torres will be on the protected list though.

It is interesting that you knew who I was talking about even though I didn't mention any names. 😉

But the rules say that every MLS team MUST protect at least 3 SIs.

So none of RSL's SIs could be drafted by Toronto.

And the rumors on Sequira is pretty much everywhere.

I wasn't sure if the rule said that they must protect three SIs or that they must leave at least one and only one unprotected. That's why I asked.
