I hope that our 0-0 scoreline didn't convince anybody that they wouldn't enjoy the Apr 16 game. I was rooting for any kind of goal so that some of the fencesitters could get behind us. Too many people were saying "That's why I don't like soccer" after last night's game.

Hey, let's face it, it wasn't pretty and it wasn't particularly exciting. There was some good action and the teams battled hard but you can't play attractive soccer in those conditions. So it certainly didn't help.

But we do have the Galaxy game next week to show what we can do. If damage has been done with the fencesitters, then so be it. They'll figure out their mistake later.

I was never pleased that we were going to Jersey for the first game because it's a cavernous stadium with the worst field in MLS. They rarely have big enough crowds to create a real soccer atmosphere. I didn't count on the weather to make it even worse. But that's what we got so we have to try again next week.

I have heard this before and last night as well. This attitude puzzles me though. If you had a 0-0 game at the end of the ninth inning in baseball, people would be all over that and consider it a great pitcher's duel. Of course, they continue playing until someone wins, so maybe this isn't the best comparison.

Hockey, on the other hand, is a great comparison. It can also end in a 0-0 tie, even after overtime, and yet when that happens it is a great defensive battle. Why is it acceptable for many sports fans if a tie happens in hockey, but "like kissing your brother," as one guy put it last night, in soccer?

At least in hockey (when NHL plays...), even during the regular season, they have overtime.
Call me an American Soccer apologist, but I hate ties. Bring back the OT penalty kicks! Screw FIFA's rules.

SoccerPrime, you American Soccer apologist, you!

No overtimes! A PK shootout would have made no sense after a game like last night's. A draw seemed like a perfectly fair result.

I'm not saying that you're not entitled to your own opinion, I'm just saying that your opinion is wrong.

:D

Now don't hold back. Just go ahead and tell us what you think. There's no need to be shy about it here. We're all friends.

I agree with Bordy. Draws are part of the game! This part of the season is the journey, not the destination. When it comes down to MLS Cup, there are no draws because it's time to have THE winner. But in the meantime, a draw is fair because that's what happened in the game. I'd rather not tack on more game or have a bunch of penalty kicks change the outcome of the 90 minutes.

I might be able to "like" a tie that has a score. But 0 - 0 ties make me think "why did I just watch this?"
You know I am right. And of course there are about a million people in Utah that agree with me.

Hey bordy, do you live in Communist China?

I’ve decided to stop worrying about what other non-soccer fans think. I think we can worry so much that we get the “red-headed step child” mentality. Soccer needs to be able to stand on its own merits. If people aren’t infected by the passion and intensity of soccer, screw ‘em. We’ll do alright by ourselves.
