Come On! I seriously doubt anyone here sent a profanity-laced email to any of the DesNews guys. I'm not saying he didn't receive a few but I doubt it was from any of the members here. I refuse to apologize to this guy and here's why:

1) I sent him an honest email expression 'dissapointment' at hearing the news that they would not sent a reporter to cover all away games. I stood behind what I said and I stand behind it now.

2) I received the exact same email response as Prime and found it a bit condescending , unprofessional, and back-handed.

3) Just because some idiot that likes soccer did something stupid, AGAIN (see: bramble), doesn't mean that all fans are like that. If that is what the DesNews honestly believes than that show two things. First, they are really naive. This kind of shameful acts happen in every sport. I didn't see anyone calling all NBA fans a bunch of thugs after the recent brawling incident. I didn't see anyone doing the same for MLB fans after what seems like weekly idiotic occurence with that league either. Second, if they interpret the shameful acts of a few as the norm for all fans of the sport, they are just showing their already present bias against us and using isolated incidents as justification.

4) I have really appreciated the coverage we've received thus far. I have made it know. However, I do not consider it enough and I will make that known.

I did NOT participate in the Bramble incident nor did I participate in juvenile emailings. So I REFUSE to apologize for the actions of some persons whom I do not know nor support.

La Opinion didn't used to send reporters to some Galaxy games in the Rose Bowl.

Rover, help me out on this....I seem to remember the LA Times carrying Wire Service stories of home Galaxy games.

(MLS being beneath the dignity of His Graemeness)

Common practice. Even in LA.

To make Jasoncox's point a little more,

Just for the record the same post that Dysko put here was put on BS so it could literally have been anyone in the world.
After seeing some of the juvenile posts on BS I am with Jason as far as not apologizing for something I had nothing to do with... I didn't even do as much as Jasoncox did as far as sending an email.

Keep up the positive email campaign and be done with this once and for all!

We are Soccer fans NOT Soccer Apologists!

If there is anything to be learned here, I believe it is this:

We need to be careful what we say and when we try to "rally the troops" behind a cause. When we post such things in a public forum we may be "recruiting" people who we really don't want representing us. As Loyalists and outspoken soccer fans we have many looking at us a representatives or ambasadors of soccer in Utah. For the most part, we are all level-headed individuals with good motives. We all want to see professional soccer succeed in Utah at the highest levels and we want to encourage as many people as possible to join us in our passion. There will be times when we are discouraged by the "haters" in the media and elsewhere. We may feel the need to "vent" our frustrations or make our disappointment known publicly. It appears that most of us are capable of doing so in an intelligent and respectful manner. However, there are many people that may read our thoughts and become "inspired" by our actions who don't have this same kind of personal restraint or respect.

So, perhaps similar to Charles Barkley, we don't intend to be role models but our sudden Loyalist fame has been thrust upon us. :D So, perhaps it's time to realize how famous we really are and accept the higher standards that we are being held to.

Recently a few passionate soccer fans got their undies in a bunch because James E. wasn’t covering the RSL match in Dallas this weekend. It appears that it was all based on rumor and innuendo. I have not participated in this email campaign until now. I feel a need to let the Des News know how much I appreciate your excellent coverage thus far of Real Salt Lake.

Des News has had breaking stories about the latest MLS team in Salt Lake from the very beginning. James helped us know about Dave Checketts’ original intentions to bring a team to Salt Lake, he also helped us to know about the upcoming World Cup Qualifier that will be played at Rice-Eccles stadium on June 4th.

I am very grateful to the Deseret News and James Edward for your excellent coverage. I understand budget constraints, etc. and your need to pace yourselves on expenses. I just want you to know that the first thing I look for every morning in the Des News is James’ latest revelations on the team.

I know that the latest wave of emails from some passionate fans haven’t gone over very good. I hope that you will attribute this to the irrational exuberance of having a professional soccer team here in Salt Lake. Please forgive any offense and PLEASE continue your excellent coverage of the world’s greatest game.

Gratefully,

Arelius
Dave Schneider's response:

Arelius:

Thank you for your kinds words. We'll keep plugging away
at covering the Real Salt Lake happenings as best we can.

I think it would be wise that we no longer post "our cause" on BigSoccer. We will never know who will send the wrong kind of e-mail. If we don't think that it would have been someone from the Loyalists then I would think that someone that read about it on BS sent the e-mail and we all know that there are some interesting people out there that would send such an email.
