DIPSY GONE AGAIN: Real Salt Lake forward Dipsy Selolwane is back in his native Botswana this week for an upcoming World Cup qualifying match with Malawi.
With three matches remaining in Africa Group 5 qualifying, Botswana (2-0-5, 6 points) is in fifth, followed by Malawi (0-3-4, 3 points).
Only the group winner advances to the World Cup, and Botswana has already been mathematically eliminated from qualification. However, Selolwane's national team still has plenty to play for. The second- and third-place finisher in each group qualify for the African Nation's Cup.
Botswana realistically needs to win its final three matches to earn an African Nation's berth.
Well, that blows my whole 4-3-3 strategy for the San Jose game!!!

Merced?

Just because Merced isn't in Southern California doesn't mean it doesn't matter, and that there are no people there to attend a school. California does keep going beyond Santa Barbara.

I'm a NoCal and a SoCal. Marin, Monterrey, Orange, and San Diego counties--lived in all of them. Parents live in Calaveras, one brother in Roseville, and the other in Orange. I know California.

And Merced, bless its little heart, is just about the least likely location for a UC in the SJV. I could buy Fresno, Modesto . . . even Bakersfield. Merced? I've been to Merced more times than I want to admit. So my opinion is based on experience.

But that's where it is, at the expense of the taxpayers of California. If we'd been able to vote on a location, I'm confident we would not have chosen Merced.

Coalinga, maybe. Or Turlock.

I wonder if RSL's pick of location for their training facility allows us to allude that they are targeting the same area for the SSS.

And speaking of the SSS, if Dave has to pay, he will. But if he can wait a little and get someone else to pay for it, well, what would you do? :D

I stuck around after Wednesday's game to get some autographs and congratulate the team. I got Coach Ellinger's attention and told him to get the boys to keep up the intensity. He said he'd try, and was definetly going to start Jamie again. I told him Jamie was nicknamed Sparky on this forum because of his spark off the bench. He got a good laugh about that, and said they're going to start calling him that in practice!

I also wanted to tell Sparky in person, but the TV guys wanted to interview him for some reason and I didn't have time to wait.

Sparky is better than Gnat or whatever they were calling him...

At least Ellinger knows we want intensity and Watson from now on. 😉
