Your comments won't cost you any friendship from me and I'm all for free speech, but I just think that things like this are better handled in private rather than involving everyone, including those that aren't involved. A message board is a fragile thing and I've seen other boards totally destroyed over things like this. I don't want to see that happen. I really like this place and will do whatever I can to protect it and make it great. I just don't see any good that can come of dragging things like this out into public. You get people choosing sides and it can divide an entire board. And then you just might actually really lost someone's friendship.

Not that it matters now anyways since it is totally out in the public now. I just hope this doesn't ruin everything we have built here. I'll be very sad if that happens.

Clearly racist, sexist and hateful posts are out. But obviously there are other issues that could get you in trouble that the general forum should know about.

I'm not trying to start something or encourage disrespectful behavior, I'm trying to tread very lightly around this. But it should be discussed.
That is a great idea. I think that this should be something that is implemented.

I am not telling someone how to run this board

one board i frequent has penalties for those who do something out of the rules (which you agree to before you can post).
penalties run from 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, forever. just a thought (I am not telling someone how to run this board)

Yeah, I didn't really get that either. I'm sure Jules will clear it up. However, I don't think "liberal" is any more of a politically charged term than "conservative", and I don't mind being called "conservative" based on my opinions (when I share them) - so I'm not sure why someone would mind being called "liberal" if they shared a liberal opinion. I just don't understand the context of "liberal" and its use in the post.

I don't think it should be.
Nothing wrong with wanting to know, but you can also ask by PM. That is where things like this should be dealt with. If the moderator decides that it is something that is worth it for everyone to know, they can make the knowledge public. Personally I think that is the best way to handle something like this. Of course, I don't have any more say in the matter than you do. I'm just another regular poster so take my opinion for what it is worth. It may or may not agree with the actual management position.

I wasn't pointing blame at anyone... in fact I toned down my original message QUITE A BIT. I think one person saw it and I decided that was enough.
Yes, you did. I saw the original. Thank you for toning it down.

And, she cleared it up. I'm good now.

I can't comment on this old ska stuff, but I read the RSL forums in Bigsoccer.com and I thought that this post from this morning was very interesting:

http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?p=5258026#post5258026

Is this related? Why would a dues paying member of the Loyalists be abandoning ship?

Yes, I'm glad I toned it down as well. Whew...

Anyhow,
I didn't know that OldSka had been banned. I just got a PM from him saying

So, I checked the MembersList and no OldSka... then I figured that something was wrong... so I asked the community. Next time I have a question I'll think a bit more whether a PM would do the trick. Excellent suggestion.

next point:
I didn't know that you could get banned. I still think it should be clear what constitutes banning... is it for life or the penalty system (as mentioned previously).

Maybe some good will come of this wobegone thread. 🙂
