And what are you basing this off of? He's brought in when we're 2 and 3 down and expected to pick up the team's pace and change things around. Pretty unrealistic expectations from a rookie, don't you think?

His lone score came on a start.

Ok, let's play this game. Who should he start in place of? Do you want to play him in front of Cila? How about Kreis? Both of those players have more goals scored than does Jamie. This isn't about Jamie, it is about the team. Does Jamie bring energy? He absolutely does. However, his energy doesn't always lead to production. If Jamie had continued to score goals and rack up assists while starting, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Coach Ellinger prefers to bring him off the bench. I'm reasonably certain he knows a bit more about the game than any of the rest of us.

I agree that I'd love to see Jamie starting again. He brings energy and passion into the game and you don't need that in the 84th minute when you're down by three.

If you think back to the beginning of the season, we were suffering most from apathy. Skill and experience are important, but if you're not trying , you're not going to get results. We can all recall the first times Jamie came and sparked the entire team to kick things up a notch (Bam!). I didn't see the game last night, but the week before the team was looking a little more apathetic again. I love my team... don't get me wrong, but they have better games than others.

Oh, and p.s. they've never lost a game when I've been at RES. I missed yesterday and July 4th. Coincidence? Hmmm....

I love Watson as a late sub. It's true he can't be expected to turn the gamearound on his own, but

his energy brings a lot of hope

in a sometimes hopeless situation.

Yes, and he does excite the crowd, which helps us provide better atmosphere. I think Coach E used Jamie in that role with the U17s as well.

You've now shown your lack of knowledge. Ellinger didn't use Jamie in that role for the U-17's. Jamie had an injury coming into the U-17's . He rehab and earned a starting postion on the U-17 World Cup team in Finland. He scored in the opening game and was the one who feed Freddie Adu the winning goal in the second game. In fact Adu was on 60 minutes and gave Jamie the full credit for the pass that won that game. So don't give those who arent in the know that Ellinger used him in the same role. Ellinger knows what Jamie can do .

Erm ... actually that is exactly the role he used Jamie in. I have that first hand. Jamie himself would say his desire is to be a starter, and one day soon enough he absolutely will be, but for now he is in a 'super sub' role and he does it very well.

Are you serious that you didn't know Jamie started up top with Freddie? Like rslfan said, he came into camp with a broken foot and earned his starting role and started in the WC in Finland.

I can't believe we're having this conversation.

Neither can I, can we get back to the topic and stop worrying about wether or not Jamie started in a U-17 game? The whole point of this thread was to talk about what happened with his red-card. What does him starting have to do with it?

My opinions:

Red card completely deserved. Probably additional game suspension as well, in my book. Made no play on the ball, and was obviously retaliatory. Ok, so the kid obviously has a temper, which is fine. Problem is, with crap like this, he's going to start building a reputation in the league, and that's never healthy.

I disagree that our offense improved substantially when Jamie came in, and agree that he is currently more valuable as a substitute. Jamie is great at coming back and winning balls, and running non-stop, but he's a show-stopper when he receives the ball as a forward. His speed is excellent, but his composure with the ball when he has a defender on him is sub-par, as is his finishing. He'll be a great player in this league, I have no doubt, but he's getting shut down by some mediocre defenders in this league, and is often resorting to diving or whining to attempt to acheive results (which, incidentally, almost never works well for rookies). I wouldn't be opposed to pencilling him in as a starter every 5th game or so, or when we feel that his speed will cause problems for a particularly slow defense, but I see nothing that would warrant him being named as a regular starter just yet. I mean, who are you going to replace? Kreis, our leading scorer and one of our most consistent players? Cila, who has 3 times as many goals in less minutes?

Also, the 3rd RSL goal should have counted. I was on the north-west corner flag, front row, and clearly saw Bo toss it in to his own net. And he knew it, too. The match official was terrible, but the worst effort on that officiating crew came from the north side linesman. NEVER in position to make a call. He might as well have had a lawn chair set up for himself at midfield. The quality of officiating in this league needs to be addressed by Garber ASAP, as, based on people's reactions, they are ridiculously incompetent, they affect game outcomes, don't control matches, don't have any sort of trust from the players, and make the league come off looking very unprofessional. I mean, yes, the RSL defense was atrocious, the league is only 10 years old, etc., but games should NOT end up being played out like that.
