I thought the game was a lot of fun to watch. I'm glad they had it televised live. Whew! 2 - 0 is a good score. It could have been 3 - 0 very easily if Beasley makes his chip shot late in the second half.
My favorite part, besides hearing the Mexican coach and players whine after losing, was watching the highlights of Onyewu shutting down Borghetti. Onyewu used him as a mop all up and down the field. That was fun. I'm glad we are qualified. Now we can use some other formations/players in the upcoming qualifiers to test new ideas and strategies. That may prove useful next year. USA! USA! USA! USA!

sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. either way you have to be able to handle both situations with a little bit more of honor... I mean, saying the US team is small won't take us to the world cup.
I was not mad at the team (mexican) not being able to score or win or whatever. I was mad at all the comments they were making around this match. (oh yeah, Donovan this is 4 u too!) LOL I think the US Nats gave a great match and were way better than the mexican team. it hurt, but it was the way it had to be. now, we know both teams are already N the wc 2006...(kinda). It was a good match to watch (lol) lots of hard tackles, fighting for the ball kinda game. I loved it!! Congrats USA!! :signrocko

Hi there!
Well first of all, congrats to the Nat'l team and all the fans. Well, as my name suggests, i am a Mexican 🙂 living in the US for most of my (rather short) life. I didn't want to take sides cause i really like both, but i can say i was a little disappointed with the whole "Mexico sucks" from the people there and the bragging of that one guy (i cant recall his name) from the team. Oh well, now that the US won, i hope next time Mexico wins.

They did win the last one. All US v. Mexico is in qualifying matches anymore is who finishes first and who second. It seems like the old days of the Big 10. __________________

I can understand that the Mexico Sucks chant would make you angry and disappointed and I am sure that, like you, most of the USA fans were angry and disappointed at the "Osama" chants from Mexican fans in Mexico City. Does not make it right and it certainly does not make it better, but their is a lot of bad blood on both sides of the border. I am just glad that we all have a great team here in Salt Lake that we can all rally behind, regardless of which side of the border we come from. Viva RSL

Personally, I'd much rather both sides kept it positive and showed respect for their biggest rival. As a US fan, though, I can say it doesn't begin with Donovan, although I wish he'd grow up a bit in how he acts and talks about Mexico. Even so, LD is responding to what some Mexican players and coaches have been saying not just before this match but over the years. Borghetti calling US soccer "ugly" and Lavolpe belittling the talent of our players is uncalled for but representative of the kind of talk we usually hear from the Mexican side, even when they lose. That doesn't excuse Donovan, but understand that he is reacting to what's being said by an opponent. For me, I am not impressed when fans in Mexico use insulting chants or throw all kinds of things at our players when we play down there, but we get that all over CONCACAF (except in the Caribbean). No, what's unforgivable is to boo another country's national anthem, which is common practice when a US team plays in Mexico. These are the actions that lead to the kind of behavior that we saw at the game in Columbus. Both sides should show respect. This is a great rivalry and whether either group of fans (or players) likes or not, we cannot avoid playing each other. I believe the rivalry forces both teams to be better, and in the end that produces better teams when we both get to the World Cup. And as Paco Palencia said, "The only rivalry we have is on the field." Agree. __________________ Easy to be hard; hard to be smart. --Old Gunny Last edited by Rover : 09-05-2005 at 12:08 PM.

Anyone ever heard Alex Ferguson talking about his opponents weeks before the game? He can be brutal, I don't really care, it's just words, I agree about the anthem thing though, even though admit I may have been louder than normal during the French national anthem .. aherm :whistling: but the rest is just a part of soccer, wind up the other side and the fans shout 'You suck' or words to that effect. Osama chants do cross the line because it's so specific, but just making fun of another team ... bring it on, it just makes the game better.
