Mr. Pastorino -
Thanks for a fun summer. My only comment (other than it would have been awesome to be in the playoffs this year) is in regards to the fan appreciation night. Although it was fun, I really think that it would have been nice for more of the team to come down to the Corner to say thanks for our support. For all the losses that we saw this year, we stood and cheered. All. Summer. Long. It probably wouldn't have killed them to come down and say a word or two. Jamie did, Tremble did, and Nolly did. One other guy did, but I forgot who it was. Those guys get it, and I respect them more for coming and saying thanks. My .02. Thanks, the Bardguy __________________

I agree with the Bardguy 100%. We put so much effort into the year, both groups, and to have a select few come over to the corner and thank us for coming while the rest of the team jets off to the off-season. Kind of left a sour taste in my mouth.
who came over: Dunny, Nolley, Watson, Trembly __________________

Brian Kamler came over as well.
As much as I feel I should be really pissed off about last night... the only thing that was too painful to think about last night was watching the wrong team hoist the Inaugural Rocky Mountain Cup and taunt the supporters with it. The rest of the night and the inaugural season, to me, was beyond awesome... We could have been better but we were not, so what... It was fun. Overall I really cannot be more pleased that we have an MLS team in SLC. It gives me a little warm and fuzzy feeling to think that next year we will get to go out and do it all over again. Hopefully with a better result in the end. I just want to say thanks to all of the folks in the front office and on the coaching staff, for making my 2005 summer the best ever. To Dave Checketts for bringing the team to Salt Lake and to the team for playing in Salt Lake. I am disappointed with the end result but I am also very proud be a part of it all and i can't wait til next season. In the immortal words of Jim Umber... Is it April Yet? End of season comments for Mr. Pastorino...
The Good: Nice job working with supporters and selling tickets... Nice job working with the community and selling the players as part of the community... It appears you put together a good front office... Chris Keeney is great... DC seems to be the perfect boss...he wants the right results...but stays the heck out of the way and lets his qualified people do the job...nice... Nice job getting RES looking as good as possible... Looks like RSL's coaching staff helped the young players improve through the reserve program... The Bad: Hindsight being 20-20, not a very good job in either the draft or on the market pre-season...however, the mid-season additions may actually pan out...obviously there will be a ton of turn over on the roster because we were worse than our oppostion at almost every position every game. Some of the players "got it" regarding dealing with the public and trying hard to become part of the community, some did not. In this small of a market, they need to "get it". The Ugly: We can make all the excuses we want about lack of talent and injuries causing RSL to have a lack of continuity, but that does not excuse the obvious lack of effort by certain players this year...the coach makes the line-up, the coach determines who is fit, the coach sets the bar for effort...as fans, we recognize that we lost games this year due to having less talent (hmmm, Ellinger is responsible for that too, isn't he), but we should not have had to watch certain members of this team show little to no effort on the field...when that happens, fans vote with their wallet. I know of many fans who do not plan to re-up their season tickets, not because the team was bad, but because too many of the players did not show a desire to work, and that is on the coach who the front office has made very clear they intend to keep. For the long term success of this franchise, I think you need to look long and hard at Ellinger. His reputation is that he is a "player's coach"; comments out of the pre-season were that he was allowing the players to "play" themselves into shape; he is a genuine person with a nice sense of humor. But, for the whole 2nd half of the season, RSL lost games in the last 10 minutes of the first half and the last 20 of the second because the players were not fit. It is not hard to keep U-17s and U-20s fit, they can run all day naturally...but pros in their late 20's to early 30's need to WORK to be fit...and that was obviously lacking on this year's team. Let's face it, right now YOU are more fit than 1/2 the players on the team. Final summary: The front office and the fans created an enjoyable atmosphere at the games...the team disappointed, often...Ellinger failed miserably in his player identification and his coaching...and RSL still had the 2nd best attendance in the league. Now the challenge is build on the good and to improve the bad... We as fans support RSL with all of our hearts...but we need players who will play with their hearts also...

Tiger came over as well. Did someone mention that? Anyhow, just thought I'd mention it. Good points.

Here's a suggestion for Steve P. and the FO. How about a web cam that shows us the progress of the stadium each day. I don't think it would take too much to hook up a web cam and stream it live over the Internet.

They could do a time lapse camera. That would be sweet. A stadium being constructed before our eyes.

Hi Steve!!!!
How about a friendly at RES (or even Grand Real Stadium) against Nottingham Forest or Mansfield Town? Please! Thanks, Deuce Last edited by Deuce : 10-25-2005 at 04:39 PM.

👍 Let me recap:
We really liked having RSL and MLS in Salt Lake City! We really liked supporting the team. We really didn't like losing. We really liked seeing the amazing effort and skill of some of the players. We really didn't like seeing the lack of effort and desire to win of some other players. We really liked the way the FO worked with us. We really liked the way some players came out and supported us, the supporters. We really didn't like the way some players disappeared right after the games and right after the practices. Not that we dislike those players, now, but that we would have liked an opportunity to meet them, as well. I guess many times the players didn't feel like celebrating, after a losing game. But they have to understand that we like them anyway. Win, lose, or draw, we still want to meet them. Jamie Watson was the epitome of the Fans Player. He came over to us, after the games. He came and sat with us, when he was sitting out a suspension. He came out for autographs and was willing to talk to the supporters. And he was part of many functions and occasion involving the supporters: the Pep Rally, and several Meet the Players occassions. His Journal started it off, even before the season. By the way, may I suggest that a last installment of Jamie's Journal, with his overall impression of the season, might be well received? In short, there and been much good, and a little bad. SLC fans tend to be loyal, hence the Loyalists name. I think you can expect good support in the future, especially if you address the problems. It would be nice to win a few more, next year. __________________
