Don't get ahead of yourself - it aint' exactly an MLS All-star backline there either. Could these guys be servicable individually? Yes. Together? Not so sure.

That said, I'd expect a 3-5-2 with those three (Alwari - Dunseth - Broome) and then a fourth player being asked to hang back and as a very defensive d-mid (Tiger maybe?).

Exactly. Dunseth in particular needs to step it up.

Moreno and Gomez will toy with this backline. Moreno in particular has a field day with slow and unorganized defenses, making otherwise decent players look ridiculous.

We're going to need strong midfield play to stay in this thing, and that means none of that staying in second gear for 70 minutes stuff. We have to be especially good at clearing the ball and eliminating second shots from the 18, where DC gets many of their goals. This one will take 90 minutes of highly organized defense or we could be in for another long night.

Our best chance is if we send a whole bunch of money to the Bolivian federation and ask them to call up Moreno.

I pretty sure Eddie Pope wasn't called up for the world cup qualifier

And also, i think tiger will play d-mid over Gregorio. He played really well there vs. Harbor View

I'm having nightmares about Gomez hitting long balls behind Brian Dunseth's posterior a la the Smurfs game already... 🙁

Another long night being defined like a 5-1 loss?

The mood on the forum today is less optimistic than some might hope.

I'm not sure about a 3-5-2...doesn't seem practical.

I kind of wonder if they'll shift Scarlett back to play left back and Broome over...as the wily vet, I'd almost guess to center, but I'd rather see him play right back, since Nellie has been playing well in the center. Has anybody been to practice that could let us know if they're toying with this idea?

That is assuming that Eddie is called into camp. The official roster won't be announced until Wed. so if anybody has the inside scoop here, I'd love to know.

I also doubt that this is the game we'll make a switch at D-mid. Kenny has been consistently solid here...hard to see Ellinger making a change.

I think you'll see Dolfo start this week at Right mid, with Seth seeing some time again at Left.

The much maligned but nevertheless incomparable Cleetus should be playing O-mid. The real question for me is what will they do up front.

I'd like to see them start Jason and Jamie. I know, I've had the occasional grumpy thing to say about Jamie, and he's young...but for this game, I'd love to see us show a little pace up front. I can't imagine Tarley would start, but having him in reserve might give Ellinger the excuse he needs to burn some of Jamie's speed and tenacity early. We could certainly use an early goal in this one and DC is likely to be a little surprised by his pace.

As for DJ...I really would like to see DJ work more on his positioning and box control before seeing him start again. I expect DJ to be an outstanding keeper one day, but I think he needs to be able to make mistakes for a while, and at the moment we can ill-afford them.

Even with no Pope, no Pierce, no Cabrera, and no Brown, this doesn't look nearly as dismal as it might. Besides, we have to win one on the road sooner or later...now is as good a time as any.

I say rsl starts Tarley he's in game form . We should attack Arpen he's there weekness on the back line. With scarlets great crossing we should win no problem ...(and a little help from Boswell)may be 1 or 2 own goals. we need this win bad. :signrocko

Ok I am now positive that our potential back 4 defenders will not include Matt Bechkne.
That I am sure of.

Nolly or Countess? Anyone?
