Dave Dir is the best coach not currently running an MLS team.

It's possible that Bob Bradley will also soon be available.

But only a lame organization would fire a coach of an expansion club without giving him at least a full season and well into a second to build a team.

I don't want RSL to be that kind of organization.

Yeah, you are right. We don't want to join the Metrostars Coach Of The Month club. My favorite MFL team Pumas was a member of The Coach Of The Month Club for a while and maybe we are again after Hugo's latest stunt.

But I am a sucker for a guy who autographs programs for me (Sigi) and then there's the minor detail that he's won several different types of hardware at the pro & college level.

I'm willing to do just about anything to avoid having to read those dopey columns that Sigi writes on MLSNet.com

Buffet Resteraunt owners up and down the Valley would love to have Sigi in town. :D

You have a point there.

Sigi's a good guy and a good coach and he should be employed by an MLS team right now.

Prime and I have gone a few rounds over his ability as the USMNT coach, but I do not doubt his quality, particularly in judging talent and creating a winning environment.

And he's a much better writer than color commentator.

I agree. I'd hate to see RSL become the revolving door of coaches like the MetroStars.

Okay, now that I'm sufficiently capable of stringing more than two words together...

Firing a head coach means that a new coach has to be found, hired, and given time to put his team and system together.

There are no guarantees, and given MLS' somewhat checkered history with coach turnover, can somewhat backfire on a team. I mean, LA chucked Sigi, brought in a whole slew of new players, and they still couldn't get a win away from the HDC until August. Warzycha seems to be doing a decent job with the Crew right now, but he's only an interim -- who knows what the new coach will do? And the Metros... well...

So our choices are basically to get over ourselves already and realize that, yes, we are an expansion team, it's not 1998 anymore, and give Ellinger a chance to turn things around; or look forward to another season of a new coach with new players trying to figure out what's going on.

I think I can sum up where I stand with this :

Keep Ellinger.

I think it is beyond belief to see Ellinger fired, for a few of my own random reasons:

* We're still ahead of Chivas. That ain't not too shabby. They are the only other expansion team and we are doing better. That should say something.

* We have won a game against every team in the Western Conference except San Jose, and they are in first, right?

* We are still winning the Rocky Mountain Cup, so far.

* I haven't heard any complaints from the players or management.

* And the final random reason: My RSL 8-ball still comes up "go team, go!" every time I shake it.
