At the end of the day, jumping to a new coach simply doesn't solve the issue. We need to build a team that can play know and win the championship tomorrow. And going from coach to coach only puts more and more pressure on incoming coaches to play overly defensively, short change young players that have a lot of potential but need paitence, trade away draft picks to pick up the next band aid, et al. We definitely don't want that. Granted at some point, if things aren't working, you have to move on. But now is not the time.

Here here... or is that hear hear ... either way I concur.

I hear that Ellinger's job is the most secure in the league.

Now if we have 2 wins next Memorial Day then the debate starts in places other than cyberspace.

I agree. I think, traditionally, that Salt Lake fans (in other sports) are loyal and supportive. They like to see the same people next year, even if they are cussing them out. I like that about this area.

I want to see Ellinger in place 10 years from now, running a winning soccer team. I want him to retire, years from now, from RSL, and we can name the Stadium John Ellinger Stadium. Once we settle on a core of players, I want to see them year after year. I want to be there when Jason Kreis scores his 200th goal (Hey, it is too possible. Likely? Well........But definietly possible!). I envision a day when the words, "Watson to Kreis.....GOOOOOOOOOAAAAL!" become as familiar as, "Stockton to Malone". Or maybe it will be, "Kreamalmeyer to Watson.....GOOOOOOOOOAAAAL!", but either way, I want to be there, and I want to hear it for years.

I think this thread is waaaaaaaaaay premature. I also think it goes against the grain for most of us. Fire Ellinger? He's my hero! Along with Steve Pastorino and Dave Checketts.

We tried to tell Ellinger that winning in MLS with his patchwork roster wouldn't be easy, yet the rookie coach insisted it could work. The team had some promising moments early in the season, but fortunes faded quickly as Salt Lake's deficiencies were exposed by more and more opponents. How much blame should Ellinger receive for the team's struggles? He deserves some of it, but the club seemed determined heading into this season to give Ellinger a few years to mold a team. Ellinger will have 2006. If next year resembles this season, Ellinger will be job hunting by 2007.

Interesting question. You can't expect much from an expansion team in terms of great results and lots of wins. But what you should be able to expect from any professional team is consistent and noticeable effort....maybe even moreso with an expansion team which may not have the talent level as some of the teams it faces.

So I woudn't hold RSL's poor record against Ellinger, but I would be questioning him about his team's occasional lack of effort.

Occasional?
More like it occasionally seemed like some of the players realized that it was a distinct possiblity that they may are may not have at one time been engaged in some sort of soccer activity more or less.

Kamler in the front office means that we have a ready-made replacement about next May or so.

Chicago won MLS Cup '98 and the '98 Fusion made the playoffs.

Yes, but the 98 expansion rules were much more friendly to the incoming teams.

Our "talent-laden" roster we were talking about at the beginning of the year wasn't nearly as talented as we thought it was.

One of Ellinger's main problems is that alot of the players we have are his old U-17 boys..he has tunnel vision when it comes to talent. Hopefully Kamler can help fix that problem.

Silly question. What does MFL stand for? I've been sitting here for the past 10 minutes(no I have no life), trying to figure it out. Here is what I have come up with;

-Megga Fang League
-Men Farting League
-My Friend League
-Mary Foster's League
-Mean Father League

The list goes on and on....and on....

Anyhow, please enlighten me. I'd ask DadOf8, but he's taking a little cat nap before he has to head out to class.
