I agree. Let's let this thread die.

I know it's an expansion team and I know Ellinger is learning the ropes in the league too. I didn't expect a lot. I hoped to challenge for a playoff spot but didn't *expect* it. But this is different. The teams done nothing to improve. In fact, they've gotten worse. We've ditched Rojas, Pierce, Behnke, Dipsy, Whitfield, O'Brien, and whomever else. Brought in Cabrerra, Broome, Washington, Tarley, Scarlett, Gregorio, and whoemver else and where did the team go? IT GOT WORSE. It's time to stop the excuses and admit that Ellinger isn't cuttin' it in the MLS. Sometimes guys can make the step up. Sometimes they can't. Had the team started to get more shutouts as the season went on or scored more goals or had some more ties or at least had close loses as things wound down, it'd be different. But the team looks just as crappy now than it did when the season started.

Weren't our last two games a tie against the best home team in the league and a 1-0 loss where they only had one shot on goal? How much closer can that get? And that was with 3/4 of our normal starting defense out. It seems to me as if the team did exactly what you were asking of it here, but you just aren't seeing it.

I agree. The results may have gotten worse, but the play on the field has gotten better. Bad luck is what I attribute it to. We clearly dominated the last two games - but they got away from us in "Can We Get a Break" fashion.

As I've said before, talk to me again about this topic after 3 losing seasons in a row.

Robert Warzycha should be fired!

He's ruining my theory that former MLS players make the best coaches.

(3 out of the last 4 MLS Cups have been won by teams coached by former MLS players)

Maybe Brian Kamler in the front office & Steve Pastorino's fellow Fire alumnus Bob Bradley sending out resumes will inspire Ellinger to new heights? But Arena will probably bring on Bradley as an assistant.

San JOse didn't have their best palyers on the pitch. And the 1-0 loss was pathetic exactly because of their 1 SOG on goal. And that doesn't account for the rest of the season. 3/4th of the normal starting defesnse? How was RSL's defensive situation any different than any other team out there in the league? And are you sayign that Dunny, Brown and Akwari weren't good enough? They all have experience in the league. It's not like it was Lookingland [sic], Knowles and Kreme all stuck on the back line at the same time.

The team's play didnt' improve over the season. The team went 3-3-2 and then 2-19-3 for the rest of the season. RSL got more points in it's first 8 games than it did in the last 24. That's pathetic.

Was the team an expansion team? Yes. And that's why I didn't expect them to get in the playoffs. I thought they had some hope to challenge for a spot. And at the begging of the season they showed it wasn't crazy to have that hope. But they go worse as the season went on, not better. 20 points from 32 games is complete crap even for an exapansion team. 30 points should've been the goal and 40 points heaven. And note that those still wouldn't get the team in the playoffs.

IMHO Ellinger hasn't shown that he's leanring and growing this year. Had we started to pick up more clean sheets as the season went on, Watson gone on a goal scoring streak, something liek that to show me soem of the choices he's made were panning out for the better, great. Dont' get me wrong, it's been a fun season. But as far as the team's on the pitch performance goes, it was crap.

Have you ever seen a team have so many freakishly unlucky things happen to them? There were many times that the team was literally inches from turning things around. Of course the tendency of the team to quit when something bad happened was disturbing.

Ellinger isn't going anywhere. Checketts isn't one to fire coaches just to make a change.

I am not buying into the fact that we are just freakishly unlucky. It seems like it is just not sharp or not focused enough to me. Lots of teams and players can get close to scoring goals, but it is the ones that actually put away the one chance they have that win. I am all for giving Ellinger another year, but I think the guys really need to increase their focus and sharpness on the pitch. Their lack of these two critical components to the game has been shown in spades during the last half of the season. I think it is something that both the coaching staff and players need to figure out.
