Everything you see is all about pushing a dumb and arrogant Mayor Anderson to step up and do what RSL want. To have a stadium downtown. Building elsewhere - however much I or others might wish they would - will be a last resort. Either way we'll have a stadium for 2007.

Not to be argumentative...but what do you propose he do? SLC does not have the funds to purchase any of the blocks of land in question...that is why Rocky jumped all over the Fairground proposal (no money out of SLC). Remember, he was all over doing Block 22 when RDA funds were still a possibility.
If you are saying that he needs to stop being an arrogant jerk with a propensity for aggravating everyone outside SLC, well, I agree.
If you are saying he needs to do so immediately to put the city in a position where they may be able to get some state funds, well, lets just say his last 6-7 years of behavior make that scenario unlikely.
If you are saying there is another funding source for SLC to use to get the property, then please let us (and the city counsel which is not aware of one) know.
Last..."arrogant?" yep..."dumb?"...I'm not sure that anyone thinks he is dumb, but "politically naive" is probably undisputed.

I don't know what other means can be used, but it seems obvious to me that Dave Checketts is pushing for all he's worth to get it in downtown, and he won't make any other decision until it is absolutely necessary, and will then take the best choice of what's left. He wants it downtown, but if he has to, he'll put somewhere else.

All the rest of the talk is pressure and positionning.

But you might be right. Mayor Anderson may have burned his last bridge years ago and have no where to go. There may be no chance for wheeling and dealing, anymore.

Mayor Rocky. Is he good or bad for SLC?
http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,605154239,00.html

Little snippet about RSL:
Lawmakers said Anderson's vocal dislike of opinions different from his own nearly cost Salt Lake City $4 million for a Salt Palace expansion project. Legislators during the 2005 session also eliminated the possibility of using redevelopment agency projects for the Real Salt Lake professional soccer stadium that Anderson is courting.

Whatever.

If Utah's lawmakers are lame enough to go the point of essentially punishing businesses (like RSL) because they don't like Rocky Anderson, then they're only going to end up shooting themselves in the foot in the long run.

They're lucky that Dave Checketts has a commitment to Utah, because a lot of people would laugh at them and take their money to Arizona or Vegas or something.

I think it's safe to say that both the council and the mayor have spent years shooting themselves in the feet. The only thing that varies is the 'weapons' used, sometimes it's just a .22, some days a 9mm, on occassions (Rocky and his unnatural hatred of all things Latter-day Saint) they use a 12 guage sawn off. Either way I can't help but thinking having a few new faces on the council and a new mayor might do a lot for the city and it's growth and relationships with businesses all over the country and indeed the world (I have a friend who specializes in businesses who are looking for new locations for both expansions and relocations, his humble opinion is that SLC has the worst Mayor to deal with in the USA, he did say that there was another mayor in Chile, one or two in Argentina and a 1 in Australia that were worse or at least as bad but over all he found Rocky the most ignorant and unfocused on the needs of whomever he is speaking with).

Gosh wouldn't it be nice to have some politicians who gave a damn about the jobs they were elected to do without all this nasty ... well ... politics. :banpoop:

If potential business owners see SLC that way, it is a problem whether wholly founded or not.

But at the end of the day, SLC residents can sit back and think, "At least I don't have to deal with the Orem City Council. Ahhhhh." (mumble mumble gripe gripe)

I'm just tired of hearing about how Rocky Anderson sucks.

Because there are a lot of people who suck even more out there in the world who deserve our attention. Like referees.
