I'm not sure where everyone's getting this "Sandy Stadium dead" stuff. The $35 million from the county is dead (for the present) but until Sandy City and RSL say the stadium won't be built there it is very much alive.

This may mean RSL will look elsewhere, but does anyone seriously think placing the stadium in another location will free up the hotel tax money? Not if you listened to the mayor today, since his reasoning for ending any discussions with RSL were all about how the money wouldn't actually be available from the tax for several years while RSL wants the cash now.

That's not going to change, unless we're dealing with an unusually egregious display of hypocrisy.

:eyebrow:

OK, maybe it is possible.

So in the mean time, SL County now gets to spend the money freed up by RSL's lobbying efforts?

awesome. Politics is FANtastic!

Never heard Uncle Dave called a "fat lady" before, but I'll agree with the basic premise.

Ya, I know it seems gloomy now. But it's not over yet. I suspect part of the reason for going the county route for the state was to encourage the county to do some of the state's dirty work. I wouldn't be surprised to see them find a way to let this one sit on the back burner until after the election.

Come in off the ledge

Yesterday there were plenty of suicidal RSL fans.

Hopefully everyone has come in off the ledge, because there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Personally, I don't think we'll see RSL moving. Dave Checkett's real baby is Sports Capital. He's trying to build that group. How can he expect it to succeed if he has the reputation of cutting and running at the first sign of problems.

And this is really RSL's first test. So far, the past year and a half has been total honeymoon phase. Now they have to deal with real life.

RSL is not going anywhere.

I have to agree. Although I am dubious of the Sandy project today, I don't think you have to worry about RSL leaving Utah.

That is just a tad patronizing and condescending... don't you think?

I would hardly call being livid to the point of seeing red because of the hypocrits in SL County government as even remotely suicidal.... in fact if you want to make it that kind of silliness.... to me, it gave me yet another reason to live... at least til those muppets get voted from office...

Gloating is not very becoming... you should try to refrain from it as much as possible....

BTW did you see this?

Section 37 has been pretty much the loan voice in opposition on this forum to the stadium deal in Sandy!
So for him to come in and try to "comfort" everyone after the news yesterday is gloating of the highest caliber!
